Or more like dial resurrection 馃槻

But seriously - with work like this being done by Michael Young and others - can we ever be 100% certain we鈥檙e getting completely original and untouched?

If it is the same dial the position of the shield is slightly different to the "before" example....

Looks fantastic for a refinished dial. Maybe there are some discrepancies here or there, but looks really good overall.

200m - vs 200m =
SUBMARINER vs SUBM A RINER (A narrower on "after")

but i dont even know if the "before" is original
i know nothing about tudors
just comparing that two examples

If that watch were mine I鈥檇 go re-dial in a New York minute. The original is a mess.

Sure, but the statement was just how good the redial WAS, and it was not.

It's a huge improvement, but there's no danger of fooling an experienced buyer into thinking it's original IMO. The same is true of every repaired dial I've seen from them.

so there's danger of fooling an inexperienced buyer (well that is always the case anyway)

I don't think anyone is arguing that the before picture is a basket case, but what about the restore is original other than the piece of metal it's printed on? And on that, while it looks nice, there are details that are not perfect. The new shield is different than the original shield, the positioning of the "Tudor Oyster Prince" is higher on the new dial than the old dial, etc.

Basically I'm guessing that he took the old dial, stripped it clean, and then started from the ground up. Effectively it is no different than an aftermarket dial at this point to me - it does look nice, but I'm not sure I'd call it a "restore" rather than a "re-creation".

With the market for "tropical", I'm actually kind of surprised that what was done was done, rather than trying to replace the missing pieces, stabilizing what was there, etc.

Wow, no I didn鈥檛, you are right! The redue is perfect in my eyes now and I will fight anybody that says the second picture is not an awesome portrayal of an original dial.

Well, as close to perfect as we can get in the best of all possible worlds we live within.

Thank you for helping me correct my opinion in the most gentle of all possible ways.馃榿

no harm no foul 馃榿 enjoy your day.

so the " before" dial was not original either?
the "after" dial makes things back closer to original?
yes that is possible

I agree which is why I said it鈥檚 more of a dial resurrection. A dead dial brought back to life.

I just hate having to explain my droll/satiric since of humor.

Didn't you catch my reference (however obtuse!) to Voltair's classic satiric novel, Candide? Tip off to satiric comments, who wouldn't have seen the pictures?

All in good fun, hence all my big smiles and last comment, "no harm no foul."
