Trying to fit new 2018 smp rubber strap on the SMPc?

I am trying to fit new 2018 smp rubber strap on the older SMPc. I have seen it done a few times. However, I couldn't get it to fit. It seems fits well between the lugs, but I wasn't able to secure the springbars, even though I tried with different curved, straight, 19, thinner. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Below is a picture I found on instagram.

You might just have to use springbars with a smaller diameter which would allow some wiggle room to get it to click in the holes. Everest bands made for Rolex's come with smaller diameter springbars for just that reason.

I bought a fake (thought it was real) band for my new SMP and had the same issues. It was close, real close, but I just couldn't get it to work.

Now I'm dealing with PayPal trying to get a refund. Joy.
