Trusted sellers on Chrono24? mhm...

After my experience with a person that I thought was legit and in the end it turned out to have a fake Seamester 120 (and who knows what else) I decided to dig a little on Chrono24 and follow the ads of "trusted sellers".

In the end it turned out that a lot of them advertise their watches as totally original and untouched, although it is obvious that they are redials.

For example:

Or:

And my favorite:

The point of this post is to never trust anyone except of course the guys from this forum who have no interest in giving you the wrong information and misleading you. Caution is never enough especially for us not so experienced watch lovers and as senior members already know, Chrono24 is full of things like that. This is just a tip of a iceberg.

It is not clear to me how the guys from Chrono24 even allow the publication of such ads under "trusted seller" category?!?

Stay safe,
Tom

I'm no vintage expert but this is just sad..
Number 2 and 3 is obvious for most.
Number 1 repainted 'constellation' writing and wrong crown? What reference is 249176?

What dealer is this?

Crown may be even original on 1st one, but script looks like its written with sharpie and IMO overpolished case.
These are from 3 different sellers and there are many more 🤬

The phrase "trusted seller" on any kind of commercial platform is meaningless.

I searched different photos and did not see that crown on either of the constellations..
The head is like you said polished and round edges..

There is a Philippine based watch forum where it seems the majority of members use chrono24 listings as a main source of reference. ::facepalm1::

French cased Constellations had a different kind of crowns then usual production. @cristos71 has one but when looking at his photo agian seems a bit different, but style is similar. https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-constellation-case-back.46522/#post-553757

This one looks same

It's the same here in NL with a lot of private sellers. Last week I enquired with a seller about a watch which was listed without an asking price and was twice by him re-directed to CH24 to, 'See what they sell for there".

Arrgghh, what an A-hole - just tell me your asking price and we can take it from there!

Find an advert that matches and then offer 25-33% less. That is more or less my experience from buying on C24 - prices are negotiable to a very large degree.

I think 'verified dealer' on Chrono24 pretty much means you get the watch in the photos and not a rock in a box. Caveat emptor otherwise.

in Chrono24 "trusted seller guideline" that you need to sign, it says:

We are committed to complying with the following conditions:

4. We truthfully state the condition of our goods and point out any signs of use, defects or damage, where applicable, in writing and in images.

We are aware that the violation of one or more of these conditions can lead to the temporary or permanent loss of the Trusted Seller seal or - in the event of serious infringements - of Chrono24 membership.

You can't control your local dealer but Chrono24 must do something about frauds on their platform.

I think "secure payment via an escrow account" is for that, because even private sellers have it.

Once they mention CH24 as their "sales price" reference point my eyes glaze over and brain simultaneously disengages...

Make sure you reply and mention you found one on CH24 in better condition than theirs, and thank them for pointing you there. 👍

Yep sounds about right. I would hear similar when meeting up with a private seller in Cebu City and elsewhere. They would come prepared with screen shots on their iphones with the highest priced online examples from chrono24 and Ebay. My reply was always "shake your phone and see if the buyers fall out". 😁

Agree! I also often see sellers on other sites stating “cheapest in Europe” or whatever and refering to their watch being cheaper than those listed on Chrono24. Thats like a supermarket saying they have the cheapest litre of milk and then only comparing that to one competitor...

Year of production: Unknown
