Good morning -- I will soon have a Seamaster 14779/165.010 that needs a new crystal. I've only found one source that lists a replacement as PZ5031 at ~$63 before shipping. I have considerable sticker shock. Other sources have their Omega crystals priced around $40, but don't have the 5031. If this is the only place that has them, I guess I have to pony up. If not, or if there's another item # I should be searching for that will be a suitable replacement, please advise.

    Thanks!

14779 and 165010 use completely different crystals, so which watch case do you have?

    Interesting. 14779.
Otto Frei says they're the same and Omega lists the 14779 as becoming ST165.010. I'm most interested in getting the right crystal (it's a stainless watch with a silver dial), but if you can shed light on the differences in the case references -- I'd love to learn that too.

    Thank you for your help.

    For 14479 - GLASS PLEXI ST RING D30.62 H4.7 - 063PZ5031

    For 1650(0)10 - GLASS PLEXI ST RING D31.62 H5.1 - 063PZ5008

They use different crowns, case tubes, case back seals, etc...

    Cheers, Al

Thank you, sir! Although that's not the news I was hoping for. I am going to call a few places and play dumb and see what happens.

I should have said I'm disappointed because the 5031 crystal was what I've been searching for without luck.

But you did find one right? I think you maybe need to update your pricing expectations - since Omega cut out all the 3rd party middle men, prices are not going to stay the same...

Sorry to high jack he thread slightly but who is now able to access Omega parts (specifically hands)?

Do you have to be certified to repair Omega watches?

I think with duty and post (if you're in USA) it might be expensive but Cousins in UK have them.

Omega sells parts directly to independent watchmakers who meet their requirements for education, experience, have the equipment required to service the full range of Omega watches, and who have attended Omega training.

Hold on. Is the top ref a typo or not? My watch is a 14779 -- not 14479.

I've ordered from Cousins several times. There was no customs duty and if you pay in advance there's a small discount from the listed price.

I think there's another typo as the 063PZ5008 seems to be for ref. 165.0001. The 165.010 uses all the same case parts as the 14779, I believe.

My area of expertise is bird law, not international trade, but I do believe anything under $50 for personal isn't subject to import duty. I also believe a 14779 is the same thing as a 165.010, but it's inconsequential here and I had enough happening at work today not to want to get distracted.
OTOH, another major parts house did try to sell me a 31.6mm generic crystal as a replacement when I gave them the 14779 case number.

CousinsUK does list both sizes for the 165.0010, but I believe the 31.6mm will be too big.

Incorrect - no typo - in fact when I looked up case 1650010 and brought up the BOM on the Omega Extranet, I checked the photo of the case back they have there, and looked at the stamp on the inside of the case back - was stamped 165.010 - 62, so I had already double checked it's the right information before posting it.

The information I've presented is correct per the Omega Extranet. Is it possible that the Extranet is wrong? Sure, but after ordering thousands and thousands of parts for hundreds of different Omega models, I can't recall an instance where I have the wrong case parts come in.

You could also try HW Perrin in Toronto

    Second

You could also buy a Generic if available. Not made by Omega, but still designed with the same specs. I used OEM if the quality of the restoration was at least 9/10 and justified the cost. If less. I bought the generic model

At the time. It was $5 vs. $25
