    Hey guys,

So I've taken a real liking to stepped dials and was reading up on the speedmaster101 buying guide.

Before o started looking, I'd been under the impression that the last of the stepped dial was 1971. But I found a 74 watch the other day with a stepped dial....
The guide states "The general feeling is that -74’s should not have stepped dials if original."

Can someone help unpack this for me? Surely Omega has/is able to answer this?

I want an original but the 71s are hiking quite a bit at the moment. 74 is affordable but I can't tell if the stepped dials are from other watches.

Yes. Some 74. Did carry a step. But the 74 has a dome dial. It can kind of be mistaken for a small step. Show some pictures to help you better

Actually struggling to find another example but I'll keep looking and send once I spot one.
Is there anywhere that I can be taken to that tells me (or can anyone tell me) what years and references had stepped dials. Preferably the more pronounced ones?

Step dials WITHOUT applied metal logo will be found on

    145.022-69,
    145.022-71

and even a few 145.022-74's have been spotted with step dials, so a step dial -74 would not detract me from buying it, actually it would attract me, as its very rare, and IMO a step dial is worth more. Trick is to make sure the caseback reference and movement serial match. Do you have those perhaps?

Sorry, don't have the example as I was just browsing at the time. Has probably been sold. Was cheap though from memory!

What do you mean by "applied metal logo"?
    Any examples?

look at a 145.012/105.012 dial and compare them to a 145.022-69 ... there will be some differences, the biggest being the difference in logo as well as the length of the hour indices.

Hahaha once I looked it up I realised that I already HAVE a metal logo on my seamaster ON MY WRIST NOW!

    Got it.

I guess I will keep looking at the 71 and 74 step dials. They already fetch a decent price but seem to be cheaper than the 69s.

I’ve seen some examples of a -74 with stepped dial too. Since they are more rare, pricing seems to be similar to a -71. Good luck on the hunt.

    Re -74 stepped dials:

Anybody ever compile serial numbers for this claimed phenomena? I ask because my -74’s serial number is very low in the range, 31312813 and it does not have a stepped dial. (I love my Speedmaster’s estimate is an April 1971 production for the movement in my -74.)

I thought stepped dials on -74’s was an ‘illusion’ and clearly I’m wrong about that.
