Chapeau!

And into the maillot vert 👍
Indeed, but at the same time felt awful for van Moer… what a win that would have been.

I will be amazed if he won a single stage let alone broke Merckx’s record. A great sprinter but past it now. His legacy will live long but I just can’t see him with another tour victory.

I’d love to be proven wrong, but I don’t think I will.
ok, here’s my dinner tonight.

I’d bet on him getting at least one or two more, esp now that Ewan is out of the picture. His leadout train is a machine.

Wow! I just happened to tune into the live broadcast this morning and caught the last five minutes of today's stage. It doesn't get any more exciting than this.

I love how Cav was as excited as when he won his first stage many years ago, chapeau to the Manx Missile.

I’m not sure if I want Cav to get to 34 though, as the Cannibal is the greatest of all time (imagine someone else winning the yellow, green and polka dot jersey in the same year 😵‍💫)

Today was the most satisfying finish I’ve watched in years. No road rash insanity; just raw emotion combined with deep respect from everyone. I’m not crying, you’re crying! Literally, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. (Jesus, that poor van Moer guy: only 150M from the line). I’ve briefly met EM twice. Believe me, I’d love Cav to take 34 or even 35 yet I fear the time has passed for that.

I’m so glad I sprung for the VPN!

I don’t think Cav reaching 34 stage wins would mean he diminishes Merckx. As you say, winning all three jerseys is key to why he is the greatest ever. Winning lots of sprint stages consolidates Cav as the greatest sprinter of all time, but not the greatest cyclist.

It should be noted that for many of MC's wins the Australian Mark Renshaw was the most skilled leadout man modern cycling has seen.

Cav has posted a time nearly a minute faster than Chris Froome in the first ITT of the race. Tells a story…

At first I thought that was a little extreme.
But you can face the same penalties for streaking during a pro sports game....
The hangup though is that the streaking is intentional, where as this lady probably did not want to cause all the trouble she did.
However running from the situation did not help her case...

He would be on top of lead out honours if they were given.

Streaking is not inherently disruptive or harmful.
It's only disruptive because of our own prudishness and discomfort with naked humans.

Physically obstructing the race is inherently disruptive.
The harms are not simply metaphysical or moral. They irrevocably changed the character of the entire race and caused physical pain and injury. Even if that was not the intention.
