I couldn’t resist the temptation so if I genuinely felt it was too pristine to be worn I’d sell it

But I just got it. Can I enjoy it for a while? 😁

If I could ever find one of my favorite references in this condition (like an diver style admiralty or 166.041 blue dial) I would absolutely wear it and think I’d feel like a kid in the candy shop.

If it was a watch I thought was cool but wasn’t over the moon for, I could definitely enjoy it on a shelf for a while.

With this particular watch, I have a good friend who is a big Seiko fan, and if this were in my possession and I could afford to gift it to him, I would go that route with the clear stipulation that he must wear it and wear it well 👍

I agree this is something a Seiko aficionado would enjoy and that's a good reason to keep it as is. Could make a fun piece to trade at some point. It's not likely to be a big dollar item, but no amount of money can buy a time machine. 😉

Wear it! It's not every day you come across something NOS like this, and, it's not like it's a NOS heavy hitting piece like speedy or sub. If I were in this situation I think I would still be careful but wear it for sure.

But more importantly life is too short to not enjoy stuff like this. Who knows if one day you'll look back and be like damn, I knew I should have gotten some wrist time off that.

At least test the “Waterproof” claim ::facepalm1::

I’d only wear it to Watch GTG … Congrats on a very special “time machine”!

It’s only NOS as long as it stays in that box. If this were a $100 Gruen I would feel the same way. Keep this in the box, you can buy another to wear. You are now the steward of a perfect example.

I acquire watches to experience them. It would see careful wear if I had it.

Another vote for wear it. I like to wear my stuff, even if it's only once in a great while...

If ¥4,700 means the amount in Japanese YEN, that translates to less than $40.00 US at current exchange rates, by my calculations. Leave it as pristine and maybe double ($80), triple ($120) or quadruple the money ($160)? So what’s the dilemma? Wear it!

Well, it's not a super valuable watch, but that is a 1965 price tag. 😉

This is an age old debate in any hobby, use it, or keep it in a state of preservation. I don’t think there is any right or wrong answer- just different ways of collecting. It has nothing to do with “value”, it’s about having a collection that is meaningful to you. If you enjoy having a display case with NOS watches in the box- absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you like a highly rotated watch box with well loved watches- nothing wrong with that either. You can even have both! 😲

Just leave it as you bought it and appreciate that it’s still intact. No need to wear this beauty, enjoy it in its full glory and please do not strip it of its tags.

I’m usually a big proponent of not making things into museum pieces, but the frozen-in-amber quality of this watch is what you purchased, I imagine. You have a million watches; keeping this one in its remarkably pristine condition will probably bring you more pleasure than wearing it with any regularity. July 18 is Ocean Day in Japan—how about you tempt fate by wearing it once a year? Get a bottle of Hibiki whiskey, screen a Japanese movie and make an annual event out of it.

And keep the tags on it while watching the movie
