To wear ... or not to wear

Haha. That's a tough one because normally watches are meant to be worn. But for this one I would make a exception! Very special!

Whats the appreciation potential here? if great, then hold for eventual sale.

That is, fundamentally, a question only you can answer.

I’d wear it. Life is short.

If it brings you joy having it stay preserved, I see no problem that. Nothing wrong with having shelf objects.

Let me amend the term “shelf object” which implies dust catcher. In this case, it’s part of a static collection- like antique toys in the box or art. It’s something you prize and admire. It can bring just as much joy as having it on your wrist knowing it’s in your static collection.

Very hard to say. I think it's a very nice reference with appealing attributes, and desirable to knowledgable collectors (like an Alpinist with date). But it's not common in the US, so it may never be one of the famous models.

Easy... Give it to me and free your mind of such tough decision!

PS: wear it... Like kids used to say, YOLO

Beautiful watch, and I would wear it. That model won't appreciate in value, so it's not really an investment. Just don't go swimming with it until it is serviced 😁

Keep it as is, and take it out and fondle it occasionally. After all, you've got 174 other nice watches to wear! 😁

If it were in front of me I’d be sizing it up and be wearing it already but I respect those who think watches should be preserved for whatever reason they wish I’m just not one of them.

I probably wouldn't have the heart to wear it. I would enjoy it more as a shelf queen. Watches in mint condition are dime a dozen but true time capsules like this one are rare.

Also, fυck this talk about investing and appreciating in value! (no offence to anyone in particular)

I most probably couldn't bring myself to wear that one. It's a rare find and putting it on the wrist, it'll get mixed in with the others and become just a watch. Which it is. 😉

I was cleaning out a “junk drawer” at work and found boxes of Kodak Wrattan filters in their original packaging- from the 40’s-50’s, never used. I have had tons of these over the years, but it was just cool to see them all perfect and new. I threw out a lot of the crap filters and such we had from the 80’s-00’s, but didn’t have the heart to throw these out. They have no value, but sit on my desk at work now in a little still life of old new shit.

The two of you are clearly in my head.

Very cool @Dan S! Please share the story of this watch with us. Did you always have it or just found it?

Unfortunately, I paid more than that. 😬

It's a new arrival I bought in a Japanese online auction. I just came across it while browsing listings.
