To trade or not to trade? (Bulova inside)

Hi all!

i have a 666 bulova chronograph (with box and bulova bracelet) I’m considering parting with. It’s a nice watch but it would need a service and a crystal change.

I have the opportunity to trade it with a white bulova 666 diver in what seems to be exceptional condition (haven’t seen it yet but it’s nearby!)

Would it seem like a fair trade? Or should one add some cash on top?
Thanks 😀

If your slanted and glare filled picture of the chrono isn't hiding some sort of bezel insert damage to the light-colored section, then you'd be nuts to trade.

Assuming the case is SS, the chronograph is worth more IMO. Valjoux movement of some sort?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the caseback. I think you would need to get $500-$1000 on top of the diver.

I love my 666’s and the white ones in clean shape are rarer than the black (although worth less as everyone wants the black ones)- but Fred is right- it would be a crazy trade. Your chrono is worth 2-3x what the 666. And the bracelet on the 666 isn’t one of the factory options as far as I have ever seen. It may be a Bulova bracelet- but not for that model.

Mine says hi

Thanks for the answers!
No damage to the insert, the initially red portion is just « ghost » but intact. Case really looks and feels unpolished too…
The movement is indeed a Valjoux 7733

I thought the chrono might be worth more than the diver but I needed to confirm it as I could not find similar examples in past sales.

No to the trade … The chrono is worth north of 1000 USD and looks to be in decent shape.

As I said, silver ones are rare (and great looking) and the one you posted is indeed in very good shape- better than mine for sure. Bezel lettering is an easy job to refill on them too. But price on the white 666’s is about $4-600 typically (without correct bracelet). Your chrono is $1-1.2k.

If the owner of the silver 666 were willing to go $6-700 on top then it may be worth while if you really wanted it…then you need to budget about $2-300 for the brick/bead bracelet.

Frankly I would keep the chrono and just wait for a good silver one- they do pop up and typically go way under the black dialed ones.

Thanks! I’ll do that although I’ll probably sell the chrono at some point 😀

the brick bracelet you have on yours is the original one? I’ve been looking for a correct bracelet for my black diver 666 and could not find what it should look like!

I'd hold onto the Chrono - mostly because I really like the deepsea Chrono designs. But, as others have noted, they're worth way more.

I keep noticing the pricing on vintage Bulova creeping up on Hodinkee. A Deepsea Chrono B sold for $2.5K recently. It's super annoying to see prices climb so fast. Guess I'll have to update my insurance soon... 🙄

Try finding a really clean Seawolf with original bracelet for under $1k, those were $400 all day long pre-pandemic.

I just told my partner that I need to hurry up and build my vintage skin diver collection before it's too late. They were not amused.

So that's where they are all hiding! Can't believe how many original bracelets you managed to assemble to go with them.

I've just got one vintage Bulova:

I'd love to add the 'B' model to the collection one day. OP, don't trade yours. You'll regret it, I think.

I don't have much to add to this thread as it has already been said: that would not be a good trade. I have a soft spot for these particular chronographs, specially the reference with the surfboard dial. Such a good looking watch.
(not mine)

My lone 666 says hi though 😀

The surfboard reissues are very well done even with applied markers and step surf-board- but it’s mechaquartz which is a deal breaker for some.
