This is a follow up to my post Diver Advice where I ask the cliche question which should I buy? After everybody shouting out seiko I continued to look and look spending way too much time searching then I found exactly what I wanted! A diver from Seiko that was from the late 70s, durable, had a Pepsi bezel, had good style, and would fit well with my Porsche Martini NATO strap. So I found this series of Seikos I fell in love with, but there was a problem they are Quartz! I have a rule no Quartz unless it is a digital from the 70s/80s. Also the bezel is very hard to replace and not sure how to take off the original oyster off it. Here is some pictures the picture of the NATO are not mine! Thank you for your time!
Quartz and NATO? Isn't that a potentially fatal combination? EDIT: Let's ask our resident NATO expert @FullyWound since I see his favorite NATO seller's watermark on one photo.
I'd only wear a quartz watch in a situation where the loss/damage of a watch is likely. Like vacationing in Caracas or BASE jumping or something.
Why not, if it's what you like and its legal... It not like being caught by the airport security with a goat and a jar of marmalade and a spatula in your luggage after all.
I wear my quartz beaters when working out and doing yard work. Oh, and at bonfires. I hate the smell the next day after a bonfire. I can't have my favorite watches getting all stinky. That's when quartz gets the nod from me.
I was talking to my dad on the phone after texting him a picture he said his dad had the same watch(he was a Seiko addict and owned a Submariner till he sold it to pay for expenses.
The watch you have in the picture is a Seiko 7546. I have a few of the 7549/7548/ 7546 Seiko Quartz divers and really like them. I also have several 7Axx Seiko Quartz Chronographs which are similar to the Speedmasters. I have no issues with buying a quartz watch but I do like the 754x and 7Axx series as the movements do have a lot of substance and very reliable.
its odd, I wear my old Omegas (30T2, 283, 351...) as daily beaters and only haul the quartz out for dress occasions because its the prettiest of the lot.
They have this same dial/bezel combo in an automatic version, do they not? edit - they do - for less than £100 on Ebay.
The 7546 shown above is the smaller version, the 7548 is the same size as the 6309 automatics and later 7S26 automatics. My 7548-7000 And my other two 7548's
My vote goes to an automatic movement. SKX007. Unkillable watch. Not for vacation in Caracas though))) Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
My quartz SMP was my first Swiss watch. As it was meant to be, it serves as an outstanding tool watch for me at work. Movement aficionados will tell you to avoid quartz at all costs. I'll tell you to buy what you like (and what you can afford), while using it accordingly.
