For all those that had a good laugh over my concern pointing out the incorrect time on the box when it was first released...You are all welcome.

02:56:15 GMT is the time officially recognized by NASA as the time Armstrong sets foot on the Moon.

Corrected boxes for all you happy customers.

It's good to have friends in high places. Yes, I did contact them. The correct box made your watch more valuable being it's correct now.

So is the “error box” going to be much more valuable?

Guess it would depend on how many 'error' boxes are out there. It appears that the correction was made before distribution started so the number should be very small, but I'm sure there will be a handful that slipped through the cracks. Since the error is on the box and not the watch I doubt it will increase the total package price by very much unless you are super anal about this sort of thing.....and a few collectors are.

From the Smithsonian Apollo Moon Shot series ...

Aldrin (and the first Watch) on the moon ...

I have been on the fence about the SS 50th LE, but after watching these Apollo series I think I will hang on to the watch when distributed by the local OB, to remind me of the time I was watching this amazing event on a 14-inch B&W TV, as an 11-yr old kid, without realizing how historic it was.

Thanks again @TLIGuy, for getting the correct time 😀

If Omega already has sent out boxes with the wrong info, I hope they will replace the boxes with a brand new box. Last time when i bought the Apollo 17 (Gene Cernan) and the text on the box was wrong, I received an old box, where they just glued an new piece of fabric on top of the old one - not ok.

It does astound me that whoever was in charge of this release from a Marketing point of view got the actual set foot time wrong I mean presumably this would go through a Project style Change Management process of QC and sign off etc. I would be surprised if it was all done to one person.

Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56:15 UTC; Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later.

Why does this astound you? This is common practice for Omega. If you read through what Omega has put out regarding some of its space related history it is riddled with incorrect or recently disproven factual errors. This is particularly true of the text associated with the museum online information. The problem now it is has gone uncorrected and is copied and used in new current publications like the MWO books or new marketing material continuing to propagate the misinformation over and over.

...Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later.

Just another example. While Wikipedia is not the definitive source of information it is documented that Aldrin follows Armstrong 19 minutes later as you see in the timeline. In the new book included with the Apollo 11 watch the booklet states he joins Armstrong “15 minutes later” While it may not bother others it’s a simple fact that 19 minutes is exact and verifiable while “15 minutes later” is lazy and simply copied from other incorrect Omega material or other poorly sourced material.

It matters not as the Moon Landings were faked anyway. Apple or even an Invicta will be the first watch on the moon. Oh the irony! :whipped:

P.S. the Earth is flat to. 😜

I don’t do spell checking but while we’re at it, if you’re wondering how the time of 05:34 GMT ends up correct on the watch dial while being incorrect in the museum online information, you’re welcome for that too.😉

Indeed Omega has made some factual errors in the past and even photoshopped a few photos, adding to the overall disappointment with the brand as spaceflight aficionados immediately pick up on these "small" things...
No need for them to photoshop or alter things as Omega has a very rich genuine heritage with spaceflight which certain Omega forummembers have highlighted in several topics, ranging from Speedmaster chronographs in rarely seen NASA photos to spotting Alaska Project timepieces on the other side of the iron curtain. I sincerely hope things will change for the better with the opening of the renewed Omega museum in a few weeks time...

Another interesting time event took place as he descended to the bottom of the ladder on the LEM. Buzz Aldrin’s epic 1st whiz on the moon.
Documented by him personally in the film In the shadow of the moon. I don’t remember what record was recorded at Mission Control. But I’d bet the bio-med
Belt does.

I bought the Apollo 17 last man on the moon. When I picked it up at the boutique they gave me a small wooden box and told me that the original boxes had incorrect language and misquote. I was told they would ship a new one to me and I could keep the wooden box. I asked them to see if they could find me the incorrect box at another Boutique as I would rather have the incorrect one. They called me a week later and told me that they found one or me . I just thought it was pretty cool to have a mistake and the language and perhaps way down the road it might have a little more value than the correct versions since they were collecting them as fast as they could get them back.
