Love to see the Argonbeam Collection exhibited

Here’s most of them, poor photo. Missing from the photo are 7 that work, and about 20 movements and box full of parts. Nothing at all collectible like yours. Many were “rescues” that were selling for scrap gold price except for one garage sale find where I pointed out the case was solid 14k but the seller still sold it cheap because wasn’t running. Some others have no intrinsic value aside from that I like them and Longines of this period should work a long time if taken care of. Total outlay for all the above is probably about 3000 usd. Watchmaker fees not insubstantial, but don’t mind at all supporting him and his craft. I have a bunch of other brands as well, but always on the lookout for more Longines.

The 70's were a confused time. As much as I love funky, that watch is truly ugly. Had I run across it, I probably would have bought it though 🤨

Fine looking collection!

Thanks Seiji. I'll collect the mutts while you go after the historically significant purebreeds. There are so many American-cased models from the mid 20th century that get no love that somebody like me needs to look after them. That being said, I am as much a movement collector, as anything, and I still have yet to find a 99x watch that I really want. The manual wind 995-8 models have been my target, but are extremely hard to find and the rare ones I've run across have been gold-plated uglies that would do this thread proud. The Japanese market seems to be the best source for these, but most are the 990-4 autos.

That what I thought wanted a lord to go with My grand and king so I figured this is ugly enough and clean enough to get. It wears nicely and unlike my Speedmaster and Seamaster's it gets noticed and its a big watch

Definitely Space Odyssey 2001 looking watch. The time will come for this style. When it does, many may will wish they bought those space age
looking oddities cheap.

Nah.
obviously I'd buy it

I think I'm on the wrong forum chaps because I haven't seen one watch in this thread that I don't like!😕 But then again... I think short, plump women with hairy bellies are beautiful so what the fakk!😟

Anyway here is my contribution.

I just remembered this thread because I’ve been wondering why there are some watches that I like despite their blemishes..... so, here is my ugly duckling I can’t help but like.

This is very nice and not ugly at all!
But...but...but...the dent on the lug! The patina on the top part of the dial! A scratch or two on the dial!

I saw the thread and immediately thought of this:

The thing about ugly watches ... ugly dogs, mates, kids, whatever ... is they are great fun to have around and always make you laugh. But .... Then I saw the diamond encrusted yachtmasters (or were they Skydwellers?) and my theory went out the window.

Does anybody know what those hideous Rolexes cost?
I already know the value! IMHO anyway!

Just love coin edge cases!
I also like silver dials.... pictures simply cannot render their shine and reflection, even with all of the blemishes.
