Really interested in everyone’s thoughts on this watch. It is extremely clean in person. Ive looked fairly extensively and cannot locate this dial/hand combo.

Is this a franken watch?

I am not sure about the hands, but the dial was reprinted at some point. Compare for instance 6 in subdials with the other examples.

I think I see that. In other examples, the 6 has a space at the top of the loop. Does a “reprint” mean they just got a blank dial and stamped it to look like the original?

They could have started with an original dial in poor condition and repainted it.
I guess that would be better than starting with a blank. Seller wants $8500 for it

I am not an expert in UG and I do not know the market for the tri-compax, there are many on this forum.

Old watches often have refinished dials and service parts (I trust that this one has a service moon for instance apart from a refinished dial).
If such a watch had sentimental value I would keep it, however if you buy a watch like this, it will not be valuable for a collector. You of course are very welcome to purchase anything that you like and that will make you happy. Keep in mind that our hobby is very much a niche and I believe the number of people who would keep on collecting mechanical watches will diminish in the future. That is why many collectors here have this motto - "condition, condition, condition" - when they purchase a watch. Find a genuine one in a good shape and you will not regret your choices in the future.

P.S. And of course wait for a UG expert to give an assessment of this watch, mine could be wrong.

Very thoughtful answer. Thank you

The minute sweep hand is incorrect. The dial fonts are incorrect for the SN. That hand, and the dial are deal breakers, I’ve not checked the case in the book.

Aside from what has been mentioned by @Larry S and what was shared by @Mark020, take note of the sloppiness of the print (just look at the way the marker and 27 touch in the minute subdial, not to mention the crooked "Universal Geneve" print, among many other sloppiness).

The lumes on the hands and minute plots also look too bright.

Funny, I noticed the exact same watch on my way to work 😉
Immediately checked the reference and price, and it does seem like a redial.

Also, on a personal level, I found the store to be very expensive - from servicing to valuation it seems like they never have a good deal.

I was wearing my Clapton and it does seem like it wears bigger, even though they are the same size 36-37mm
