Hey guys, Just looking for your thoughts on this speedmaster 74. My only concern was that the movement looked tarnished? I checked it out with Speedmaster101, but would appreciate some more experienced eyes. http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/291909315295Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network If you were to offer a BIN, how much would you be happy to pay? Thanks, Ed.
Serial number looked ok for the reference and the non-stepped dial is good for this one. Bracelet looks like the right type.
Looks alright. Movement is OK IMHO. Bezel is a later replacement, but not necessarily a deal breaker. I'd like to see the original hands if possible.
Bracelet end links are new 633 versions, were they changed at the service. Would like clasp photos. Any documentation for the service? without documents I would assume it hasn't been serviced. If you want a correct bezel will be 200-500 USD depending on condition. If it was an Omega service all of things could be available and be put back on.
It is the right style of bezel though, is it not? No accent over E, dot next to 70 and next to 90. Or are you basing that on its condition? Not saying you're wrong. I am still trying to get my head around the different bezels.
I don't have my MWO in front of me, but I do own a -74 that I believe is all original and to my eye the TACHYMETRE text looks smaller on the example in the OP. Here's a picture of mine in another thread for comparison ... https://omegaforums.net/threads/ghost-bezel-thread.42017/page-2#post-494178 Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean it's incorrect. Need to consult MWO.
mainly, the serif on the numbers.. lack of the drop serif indicates the more modern bezel. a 70's bezel should have the serif. http://speedmaster101.com/base500-bezel-identification/
On my 71, 76 they have the identical same style of Bezel and they match speedy101. This has a bezel I have not seen before but is known of. The small tachy without accent over E was apparently used in the 90's on some LE watches. Notice on other bezel's the 4 has a flat top and the 7 has a more accentuated drop on older bezels. The mid and right are 70's, the left is 80/90's
The small writing doesn't appear on any of these. Maybe it is from a limited edition watch. http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-differences-speedmaster-bezels/ Safe to say, then, that the bezel on the OP's is not original to the watch?
Not really...see red arrow... Movement does have one visible problem - broken operating lever spring...so will need a new spring, plus servicing to find the portion that is missing. As it stands the chronograph will not function properly, because the start/stop pusher won't work - the operating lever will not return to it's home position. Cheers, Al
