    Hi y'all!
I'm looking for some thoughts and opinions about this dial and the watch in general. The dial looks too clean to be from 1972, so maybe a redial? The case definitely looks polished and the bracelet looks a bit under detailed. Is this normal or is it just me?

    Here are some photos:

The minute markers appear unevenly spaced around 5 and 6 o'clock. And the photos have been heavily post-processed. I would avoid this watch.

I'm no expert, but I don't like the minutes markers: a bit far inside the dial, and they touch the applied crown. Clasp may be heavily brushed/polished. Date is not centered in the window?

That photo just looks odd, like it's been filtered.

I would pass on this watch, and I agree about the minute markers they do look unevenly spaced slightly.

Agree it is heavily polished but the dial seems OK. Date and indices may appear skewed due to parallax error.
If I were buying, I'd need to see much clearer images and definitely a shot front on.

I'm not the authority on this, but I have seen several 70's 1500s and the silver dials of many have been very nicely preserved - probably an excellently made batch of dials? I see the same for 1970s Seamaster 861 Chronos with silver dials - better preserved than other colors (and especially vs blue dials)

Here is mine, love it to death

As for polishing - the one on your pic - just look at the clasp..

What's the price range for a ref 1500 in your watch's condition?

Dial looks perfectly ok to me …Maybe some distortion in the plexi clouding judgement ?

There is some evidence of over polishing in the case

In my experience…Rolex dials on their Precision’s / Air Kings / Datejusts often are in much, much better shape… than their contemporary Submariners, or Gmt’s…Maybe the owners just took better care ?

    I have a 1963 Precision…a 55 yr old watch…with a perfect original silver dial & silver hands

what would you pay for something like this? I'm looking to put a leather strap on it anyways so I can do away with the bracelet

Maximum equivalent of £1600 -1800, in local currency

Sell the bracelet to recoup part of outlay

That's a good option. Personally, my inclination is to keep pieces together for potential future resale. Most people want to buy these watches with bracelets.

Of course, that's why I have accumulated a lot of extra accessories. ::facepalm2::

Well, I found this, but I have no idea where it came from. The question is ... how can you possibly know what an authentic Rolex buckle looks like? :)

It would certainly feel like pure class lol. All jokes aside would that be for sale if I do pickup the ref 1500?

The main issue for me is all the service parts, especially the dial and hands. They made the watch look new with new parts. It's definitely no longer collectible, and seems to defeat the purpose of buying a vintage watch.

"List of repair's performed by Rolex: service movement, clean, oil and adjustments, crown, case tube, crystal, gaskets, pressure test, new dial, set of hands, polish and refinish case and bracelet."

For the asking price, you can definitely get a nice collectible piece with patina and original parts.
