Hi,

When fishing I came across this constellation pie pan with dog legs up for auction. It is exactly the type that I was thinking of picking up, but I would like to hear your opinion.

Watch database entry here: https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-constellation-calendar-cd-168-0005

It is at reference 168.005 gold capped on steel. I think the case looks good and would do great after a small hand polish. Speaking of polishing, it does not seem that the case has been polished much (if at all) and the eight stars are all clearly visible on the back.

As far as I can tell the crown is original to reference, albeit not the sought after octagonal shape. Crystal is described as original, but it is hard to see the Omega logo on the crystal from the pictures.

I am not quite sure about the dial. It seems to be in great shape and there are no clear signs that it is a (poor) re-print as far as I can tell. I am not sure if it should say T after swiss made. When searching chrono24, I see different versions.

The watch comes with box, is described as working and is valued at 800 EURO + 20% auction fee. Current bid is 600 EURO + fee. There are no pictures with the back off but the auction house has a 14-day no question return policy.

What do you say - especially about the dial?

Thanks,

The plating looks quite worn to me and the back is a bit grubby.

I agree when looking on the gold on the top of the top lugs on the first pictures. However, I think that it is the lighting (set from above) which gives the gold a worn look. It looks better in the lower pictures, I think.

Not sure - the lug tips in the sixth picture look worn, as do the back of the lugs in the last picture. Also, given how mucky the back is I wonder how well maintained the guts are.

I like it. I'm not really a dog-leg fan but this one looks to be in good, honest condition but with a wrong crown obviously.

This is the kind of condition I like to find a watch in out in the wild for a sharp price. Unfortunately the pictures make me think that this one has already been found and is now being flipped so I guess it won't be such a bargain.

A service, new crown, crystal polish and hand buff of the case will work wonders for it.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. It is valued at 800 euro + 20% fee. Would you say that price is fair? And do you have any comments on the dial?

Auction estimates are pretty much useless. Search the classifieds on this forum and sold eBay listings to make your own valuation. The condition is average. The dial is nice but the case just shows a lot of wear and tear.

Box is nice plus. 14 day return period is exceptional for a auction house.
