Well I am banned from bidding on his lots.

Ever since I returned something completely misrepresented by him.

I must say rarely have I had dealings with someone who's moral compass is so different to mine.

As for this piece. I think the case back looks genuine 2915-1.

The bezel is new. I wonder about the caseband.

Then again, because of the seller, I would inspect very carefully the received item.

Watch out there is extremely major shilling going on too.
I'm certain a***m (20) is another of his shill accounts and the private bidder probably too.
These two accounts are having a shilling war and have taken the price sky high today.

If this has sold, I'd be interested in the buyers motivation. A 2915 dial or bezel? Fair enough, these may well be damaged or missing so could legitimately be wanted to improve a genuine 2915, but a case? I'm struggling to see how a case and caseback would need replacing when the movement, dial and bezel are useable.

Given the lack of the original bezel and the open knowledge that an extract isn't available for this period, there's a good chance the best use for this would be to put together a 2915 with a seamaster movement, aged modern bezel and a suitable dial.

I've uploaded a couple of pictures from the listing so any 2915's offered in the next few months can be checked. There's a few distinguishing marks that could be used to ID.

There was a 15,99x,xxx movement listed on ebay not long ago too that would fit nicely with this case.

What's the going price for an assembled 2915-1 I wonder..

Ridiculous, I really don't see the obsession with 2915-1-itus, anyone could bag a 2915-1 case back, bolt it to anything up to a 105-003 case and then punt it on as an original, also that bezel is certainly not correct as a few have pointed out!

Having said that I do not believe this sale was real and that I think a massive shilling has gone on, I agree entirely with your words. However, this is the effect of Speedmasters being very fashionable at the present time. Books, fora and auctions all point in the same direction. The phenomenon will fade in a few years' time, as it has been the case for many other timepieces.
In the meantime, collectors should always ask themselves: how easily a particular model can be put together?

Tom that is not correct ;-) The diameter of the pushers as well as the holes for the pushers in the midcase are different to anything later AND the 2915 caseback will not screw in a 2998 case oder later. Above the pushers are replacements and the diamenter of the pusher holes can not be seen. However the corrosion seen is very typical to the 2915 cases and is not seen later in that extense, probably due to better steel quality.
