Recently purchased this watch, debated buying it for a while but felt that the opportunity was too good to pass up! It's a 1975 Seamaster and still has the original papers from when it was purchased new in '75. Watch itself, I think is in very good condition for the age and is completely original. Just wondered what you guys thought of it! Comments and Criticism welcome! Thanks!

nice watch, it appears to be in original condition, aside from the crown. Is the crown marked with the Omega logo?
You realize this is a gold-capped watch and not solid gold, right? The CD in front of the ref number (166.067) stands for gold capped in 14k gold.

Thanks, I was assured it was in original condition when I bought it from the jeweller, and yes the crown is marked with the Omega emblem. I knew it was gold capped and not solid gold yes, but I didn't know that that was what the CD stood for so thank you ! Learn something new everyday!

Fairly common, crowns and crystal are considered wear and tear parts that are replaced often, original crowns are preferred by collectors though, or failing that at least a genuine Omega one rather than a generic is ideal.

Ah right well I suppose you can expect that from a watch of this age, anyone know how hard it is to fit a new crown to this watch? Would ideally like a genuine omega crown with the emblem.

Fitting a new crown is relatively easy if you know what you are doing. Finding the omega crown can sometimes be problematic. Both Ofrei Co. and Jules Borel don't list one for this model. Perhaps a watchmaker with extranet access could find one. Archer might be able to locate a part number.
For searching purposes this is a 166.0067

Sounds like it could be quite hard to find a genuine omega crown, maybe that's why it wasn't replaced with an original one in the first place, and thanks for the part number, ill start having a look now and let you know how I get on :)

As you are in the UK, you might want to contact our member stefan . He is a watchmaker in London and might be able to fix you right up.

Extranet information based on the 166067 case reference, yellow gold cap:

"The article069CA42051 is not available, it was replaced by 069SX42524"

So the original crown is not available, and was replaced by the second parts number listed, so 069SX42524 is the current crown available from Omega for this watch.

No photo on the Extranet so I can't say what it looks like.

    Cheers, Al

thanks for the info Al, just had a quick look on the Internet using the reference number you gave me, this is the crown that omega have replaced the original with. Looks good to me :)
