Hi everyone. Been looking to start my watch collection outside from my Apple Watch 😅

The Omega Constellation 168.005 has really caught my eye and wondering if this one passes the snuff test for $2400.

Thanks for the response. I guess I’m still learning how to spot certain aspects

The dial looks nice but for $2400 you should be able to find one with a sharp case and lugs. From the pictures the lugs look very rounded and polished, not retaining their crisp facets, edges and bevels. Basically, most of what makes this watch special has been polished away. In terms of originality, value and collectibility it takes a big hit.

There are A LOT of threads on this forum dedicated to a Connie's where you'll see beautiful examples of dog leg cases. They'll really help with your telling a sharp case from an over-polished one.

My advice is this: before spending any money learn as much as you can, study good examples on this forum and ultimately find one with a nice dial AND case. Or else I think you may regret it, and offloading this watch to break even will be very difficult. They're not uncommon, but finding one in really nice condition is worth the hunt.

Also, gold cap pieces are generally cheaper than stainless steel. Even if this case was sharp, $2400 for a head only pie pan would still arguably be high, IMO.

As others bae said the dial is fine but the case is what lets this down and for that money I’d hold off to find a better example. For reference the case should look like this, note how sharp they are compared to your example.

PS, yes gold capped examples are less desirable to collectors but don’t let this put you off if you like them!

Good luck on your search. Patience is your friend !

Don't buy a watch from sellers who don't bother to take decent pictures by holding the watch in their hand. ::facepalm1:: my2cents

These lugs are what you want. Lugs on OP post are significantly polished. This is hardest thing to learn but you need photos at similar angle to assess. Keep looking at lots of examples and don’t buy anything without seeing similar photos as above.

Review this thread you will see what good examples should look like

It’s a nice enough watch, but as others said, for 2400 the case needs to be pristine.

The watch is fine, but the condition is just mediocre (blisters on dial, soft case). And without arrowhead markers, I don't see why it would sell for such a massive premium. At half the asking price, I think you could consider it.

This is really helpful information. Makes it confusing when the chrono24 Connie posts showcase similar worn out pieces going for over $2500. Figured the one above was in pretty decent shape for $2400.

Appreciate all the input. I’ll keep folks posted on the search and ultimate purchase !

Take into consideration when sellers are posting on chrono24 or eBay they have to pay fees to the platform, so the prices tend to be a little inflated to cover them
