··Steve @ ΩFYou might have missed by $500 but you wouldn't know it unless you kept upping the bid - and even if you lost you still wouldn't know how much you lost by. If the winner entered $2000 for their maximum bid and you were the second highest bidder at $1200, the automatic system at eBay would only use enough of the winner's money to beat your bid by the preset minimum for that price bracket.
As Dennis said, you did not lose by $25. But you also did not lose in the last minute. You lost hours earlier when the winner decided what his late entered snipe bid would be. In short, you never stood a chance.
