Thoughts on the red grape dial for the OP?

Disclaimer: I'm not really a Rolex person but noticed this dial colour when I was in a Rolex AD recently, and found that the 36mm is a surprisingly good fit on a 6.75-inch wrist and preferred this red grape to the odd yellowish and even the white they had in stock. Since my colour sense is about as acute as a certain politician's ear for truth. I'm interested to know if anyone here has spent time with or owned a watch in this hue and thoughts on it. Felt it played with light in an interesting way, but can't work out what colour it actually is, from a sort of cough-medicine red to a Big League Chew purple.

I don't see any dial color on Rolex's website that could be described as grape-ish, but they don't put all the dials on the website. That kind of color usually isn't in their palette for their average watch. Could be a special run.. Sorry that your color sense is as acute as Adam Schiff's ear for truth. Painful, I know.

@Evitzee that is a standard Rolex color, they call it grape but don't specify the variety (Pino, perhaps?). LOL, I'm channeling that "Sideways" movie again.

My wife's OP is grape, and it's a neat color.

Thanks, I was looking at the Datejusts so missed it on this model. Interesting color, definitely more on the feminine side.

I saw this dial when released at Basel world (I think it was) then flying out of Heathrow I saw a 36mm Datejust in the boutique it really looked great in the flesh, wasn’t looking for that but had a look and walked away back to the lounge and then an hour or so later it was still in my head how nice it was.
Walked back with the wife’s blessing all set to try and buy to find it sold 20mins earlier.
This post has has reminded me I have unfinished business.
Lovely at full price but very lovely minus VAT.

Thanks for this. Haven't seen a DJ of any kind on display for so long I'd forgotten them as an option. The OP36 wears, on me anyway, much more comfortably than the 39. It seems to disappear until you look at, a neat trick.

Lovely watch!!
If you're considering one for you, do not hesitate!

But my comment is biased.

With the current trend of large diameters/sizes on women watches I consider this OP36 &34mm in redgrape version a very nice watch for a lady.

In addition to the dial color, there are also some pink dots between the hours markers and the rehaut for the 34 and smaller versions. For 36 and 39 versions dots are red.

My wife's 34 redgrape next to my 300sm for reference.

It’s not the size, it’s what you do with it that counts 😉
I love the 34mm format for Rolex and I have a 7.25” wrist- you don’t even feel them but sparkle like a jewel from across the room.

But the DJ is perfection in 36 and that grape is a stunning color- like oxblood, could go either way for matching earth-tones or blacks/greys.

So, if we’ve established this is a standard colour, does that also establish Schiff’s truth-telling capabilities

The pictures are nice, but I’m really here for the political commentary. 🤮

“as acute as a certain politician's ear for truth.“. When I read this I thought, for sure, he absolutely must be talking about Trump.

Back on topic (watches!), the OP in red grape would not be my choice unless I was either female or had a lot of watches. I think the blue 36 Oyster Perp is kinda cool with the Explorer-esque 3-6-9 dial. Also, 36 is a nice size for guys with smaller to average sized wrists.

Agree about the political comment- disagree on the gender for color, but agree that only if you have others to choose from. I would have no problem rocking a purple dialed watch- in fact I find it quite fun! A huge departure from a normally incredibly boring watch maker::stirthepot::
And there I go bashing Rolex again...let the flames soar!

Rocking a fairly cheap purple dialled fashion watch for some fun is no issue, but sinking $5,000+ on a purple dialed watch that you may well get tired of long term is a different proposition. You better be very sure that that purple dial Rolex really is a long term love affair to justify the price of admission.

True indeed- you need to love it.

I like it. Admittedly it wouldn't be an "everyday" watch; but for the times you want to wear it, I like the color, the depth, and the "pop" of an unusual color.

I like it too. That and the olive color dial are my favorites ones
