Thoughts on the Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre?

So a few months ago, with the release of Spectre, you may remember, Omega released a limited edition Seamaster 300 in collaboration with the James Bond franchise. They released two watches actually. A Blue/Yellow seamaster, and the 300. The Blue and Yellow seamaster really was an instant fail in my eyes, but the other one was a different story.

For the first time ever, a James Bond LE (well, at 7,007 pieces, not massively limited) caught my attention. No garish James Bond logos on the watch. In fact the differences in comparison to the standard model are a different bezel (0-12), the dial is missing the "12" (thus a larger Omega logo as well), lollipop seconds hand, "SPECTRE" in small lettering on the case back surround, and the bracelet which comes in the (very cool combination-release) box has "James Bond 007" engraved on the clasp.

Now I know for sure, I won't be able to afford the one from the movie at auction, so it got me looking at the limited edition. I am a James Bond fan, and I know that's controversial, but I just am. Many millions of others are, and 7000 or so of those Bond lovers must like the franchise enough to have gone for the LE as I was surprised to call my local AD and find that they'd sold out. Not only had that branch sold out, but I started calling around and soon realised that the whole of the UK has sold out. I emailed a dealer abroad that I was told about a while ago and they said the same thing, adding "we wish we had more". Is this perhaps the first James Bond model to fly off the shelves perhaps, especially in such a short period of time?

So I know it could be seen as gimmicky, but the more I looked at the picture below, the more I wanted one. Anyway, I've hopefully found one and I'm sorely tempted to go for it. I know I could pay less and get the full production model, but there's something about the bezel and lollipop seconds hand that really appeal to me. I'd probably wear it on the NATO, or at least some kind of NATO.

    Should I do it?!

Great watch. Sounds like you already know you should go for it ;)

Seriously, if you 'love it' and have the means then I would surely take the plunge.

Post pics when you do and, even if premature, congrats!!

Thanks, you're probably right. There's a decent price gap between standard production and LE but I feel it's in some way justified. Kind of. Maybe :-D

I considered both (I was offered a chance to buy the Spectre version at my local Boutique), but I opted for the standard one. I think I found the Bond branding and the oversized Omega logo to be a bit much. I would get the standard one and add an Omega NATO to go with it.

I prefer the look of the Spectre version, but wouldn't pay a premium (vs its original price). Ive seen several people asking more than it sold for new, and frankly in a year or two I think the price will drop on these...so buy it if you like it, but don't think of it as an investment. It will never be that.

I am in love with the new 300... The new 300 regular or bond version which ever you may try to consider finding an original vintage 300...maybe roughly same price and have chance to appreciate...I am waiting to pull the trigger on the new ones until they take a significant depreciation in the secondary market.. I love the new movement and I love the blue titanium version too

it will be interesting to see what sentiment will be like after the new Bond is cast...
With Daniel Craig stepping down, he will most assuredly lose his Omega ambassador role as well... Soon he will be able to wear Rolex again.

I hope the next one is a better ambassador for both Omega and The 007 films... If he is, then whatever watch his James Bond is wearing will become the watch to have in the minds of many...

There are few out there at just over MSRP right now. I love this watch and prefer it to the normal version. THE 007 branding is limited to the strap, and the gmt bezel is more useful in day to day then a diver bezel. I personally like the larger Omega logo on this one. As others have said I am going to wait a bit to see how the market sorts out on this one. 7007 watches and high demand for a limited edition makes me think that it will not be hard to source one in a few years. Thank being said, I might be interested in a trade for my PO chrono.

I thought the the normal SM300 dial was top heavy with the 12 above the logo so the Bond version with the lollipop hands sealed the deal for me.

I think if you do a bit of leg work there are still some around. Of all the places, I got mine in Phnom Penh at the Omega boutique located in a casino. I also got it 15% off list which makes it even more satisfying :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm booking a trip to Singapore as we speak... kidding, although I did find two available :-D

The bracelet with these is totally brushed, so does away with the PCLs, and I prefer it for that. However, this would be worn solely on the NATO. Really, it's one of the strap designs I wear the most anyway.

I think I'd like one with the regular dial - or even better, a regular 300 with the lollipop hand.

I looked at both and decided on the regular model. The Nato didn't do it enough to justify the extra cost and the oo7 markings put me off a bit. It seemed a bit similar to a child wearing a spiderman watch. I did like the lollipop hand and non PL bracelet. I have to force myself to wear one of my other watches now and again. I absolutely love it.
