Hey folks, There is a nice looking 22705/1 that is up for sale. Seller states that the pushers, crown, and crystal are original (crystal and crown are signed). He says there is light polish, however I have a hard time judging case polish on these references. I am sure some of you have a better eye for it. Movement is Val 72. Asking price is 6950 GBP if the GF bracelet is included, Or 5850 GBP excluding the bracelet. With today's exchange rates that is roughly $8000 head-only. My first reaction is that the price is high relative to comps I've seen here on OF. Over the past two years, the sales forum has a few that were roughly ~$6000 on average, some of which had incorrect crown/crystal and perhaps a bit more polish. Links below to those listings: https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-geneve-compax-22705-1.116243/ https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-genève-compax-22705-01.88814/ https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-geneve-compax-22705-1.121637/ The condition appears quite nice to me. Not sure how far I could get the seller down on price, I'd hope at least to $7000 head-only. I'm not super interested in the bracelet, as the endlinks don't fit that great IMO. I really like the reference and would be great to pair with my 22704/1. Any feedback is much appreciated!
It is a very nice 22705-1. Case is still very sharp, so it must have been a light buff ! Dial is clean with all lume dots and minor (and i mean minor) blemishes, hands have great lume and are correct and so is crown and pushers. A "U" on crystal means that it is original. The Valjoux 72-6 (universal caliber 130) which was much better quality than the later caliber 85 and similar in build (almost identical) to the rolex daytona movement of the time. is signed in all of the right places and is correct, screw heads are sharp which means that whoever serviced it, was a watchmaker, was careful and caring and did a great job ... Although great looking and a good match, the GF bracelet is not from the era (check date on clasp) and end links are too small and possibly not UG). Price is what they are up for and go for. This particular one is worth every penny even with incorrect end-links with or without bracelet (bear in mind that you will need to source end links). You will struggle to find a better one. In comparison to the equivalent rolex daytona it is a bargain !!!
Good luck. I've been drooling over that particular piece also when I saw it pop up gor sale. If I remember correctly this seller doesn't service their watches "unless specifically stated". I have made one deal with this seller and that went smoothly. I would factor in the service price. Good luck in your negotiations. I hope you get it.
Thanks for the quick and detailed feedback. Any idea if this reference would have originally been offered with a GF bracelet at all? Or is that purely a pairing made in later years by collectors?
I was able to secure this one for a price much more in-line with the comps from OF private sales. I have to say that it looks even better than the photos, just stunning condition overall. The case is SHARP! Thanks guys for the feedback that gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on it!!
Absolutely wonderful . I am happy to see the deal worked out. Did you take the bracelet also? These and the 222101-1 are my latest watch crush. Kinda hoping (for my bank accounts sake) that it would wear off.
Thanks!! I passed on the bracelet - I haven't done enough research to understand how difficult (and costly) it will be to find proper endlinks, so I will wear it on strap for the time being. I do however think it would look fantastic on bracelet! The lugs measure ~18.75mm so I'm thinking that would be UZ endlinks?
