Just read that later models came with metal bezel? Could this be original? This is apparently 1959.

    SWISS-t < 25 is no good for 59, appeared in 63/64.
The dial, hands and insert are not original, which are the most important parts on this model.
But if the price is low and you like it....

Only components potentially original to 6542 on OP’s example: case, movement, crown and bracelet.

I would want to see the Serial Numbers between both Lugs first ? …to see their shape / depth / alignment

Also clear pictures of the back of the case…without the bracelet, obscuring detail

( There are a Hell of a lot of GMT’s, suddenly coming out of the Woodwork…with ‘Vietnamese’ reworked or faux cases )

The dial worries me…Need sharp macro images of the lume plots

I have seen 3 this week on eBay, that are outright fakes…and I am not really looking !

By fakes…an amalgam of parts, ( some original ), brought together…to be sold almost entirely based on the images presented…with very thin descriptions

The proliferation of fake / purchased aftermarket paperwork…to back up claims of originality… just astounds me

Worry times indeed! Must admit I’m Contemplating ordering the Mondani GMT Book as a reference point so not to get caught out and OF of course is always a massive help.

The question is....what do you want out of a 6542? If you were actually looking for one, then get an original and very expensive one.

Maybe focus on an early 1675? The OP watch is a mish mash of parts and potential disaster.

spend your money on the best 1675 or 16750 you can find/afford. no offence, but this 6542 is junk.

Purchasing a pieced-together watch like this one can be justified if the price is right and you know full well what you're getting into. What makes it difficult is that you won't be able to find apples-to-apples comps since every Franken is different. So, determining a fair price is difficult...you basically have to part it out and know the current market value for those essential parts. Lastly, consider how this watch left the factory back in the day and look at it now in its current state...it's a shell of its former self. What is the value of that?

I agree with what everybody else has said it's a put together watch. Also keep in mind if you ever decide to sell it may be harder to find a buyer.

It would be quite a project to make it right.

And then you would only have a watch you made, not an original.

So.... what are you looking for. A project? An original watch? A reference 6542 you can afford?

This watch may give you two of the three. Yhe buyer seems semi straight forward woth what this is, the forum feedback is also quite clear. Now its up to you.

    2 days left and it’s at £12700.
I think I’ll keep my eye out for a stunning birth year 1675 (1980) :)
