Since I read more and more about constellations in this forum and other sources,

I have doubts about the originality of the watch, every day I think I see a fake or dont know it.

Is this constellation market really so difficult with so many fakes.

What do you think about this case (the back) i dont see the gold hallmarks

    Fake case or not ?

Its from a german dealer with 100%

    Thanks

    Dietmar.

    "Sold for: EUR 2.990,00"

Case looks very, very sharp - too sharp for a solid gold case, but no hallmarks can be seen on the outside and caseback may be missing the Helvetia stamp (could be out of focus).

Quite possible to get cases this sharp - it's the gold cap ones that are hardly very very sharp though it's possible for those too.

I meant its sharpness as a pro, not a con, but it's still too sharp for a mere mortal like me...:)

Here is my rose 14381. As sharp as you can wish for but at one time some idiot damaged the caseback when opening it. Pictures shows hallmarks on underside of lugs on each side - and the inside of caseback. Serial starts with 1700XXXX.
(edit) ...which makes it newer than the above mentioned watch.
(edit II) ...as gatorcpa points out (further down) the watch above has a serial starting with 18. I thought it loked like 16 I but was wrong. Which makes my watch older than the one discussed.

I see nothing wrong with the German watch that was sold. There are hallmarks on the inside of the case. The picture is blurry, so they were hard to see, but they are there. Also, there was a "61" on the inside of the case and the serial number was in the 18M range. This denotes a 1961 vintage (my birth year) and is further evidence that the case and movement are consistent.

Nice example of an early cal. 551 Constellation, that went for a high, but not ridiculous price by EU standards.

    Hope this helps,

There looks like a possible hallmark on the side of the case.

Never seen any cal. 55X/56X with a 16M serial number. Earliest ones are low 17M.

Since the pictures are totally out of focus, I don't put too much stock in not seeing the hallmarks on the lugs. As Kyle says, sometimes they are on the side(s) of the case. If there is a question in the future, best to ask the seller. If nothing else, that will tell you how knowledgeable the seller is about their product.

    Take care,
