I wanted to share a nice example of a 145.022-69 that came in this week from Jakarta. It appears to have been given by the Indonesian government to Muljadi, one of most successful badminton players of the 1960-1970s, for winning the Thomas Cup as a part of the Indonesian team in 1970. I am not a badminton enthusiast but per Wiki the Thomas Cup seems to be the world championships of team badminton. The engraving has the name of the cup and player in Indonesian at the top and bottom, as well as the city where it was played (Kuala Lampur) and the abbreviation for the Indonesian embassy to the left and right of the Hippocampus. While it’s not “tropical” in my book, it does have a nice hint of brown starting to come through, and though I don’t have the provenance to say if it’s truly unworn, the case condition is quite impressive, with nary a scratch.

It came from the tropics, I can see the hint of brown in the dial, so what you have there is a stunning tropical Speedmaster with a way cool provenance. And it does look to be probably unworn. 👍

😲 Just the right hint of brown on the dial for me and I love those bracelets. Beautiful watch!

This watch is stunning. It really does look untouched. The sides of the case, the back and of course that gorgeous dial all make for an incredible find, and with an interesting backstory as well. Badminton is a sport that Indonesia excels at so I imagine Muljadi was quite the national hero.

Fantastic watch! The badminton connection is taking me down memory lane. In 1988 I played at my University. Not a prestigious college but as a student I had free access. We played badminton a lot. It’s pretty intense but does not appear to be very popular where I live. I had to check the website and am happy to report that students can still play!
