Hello OF!
I have been frequently perusing these forums as of late. Honestly spending far, far too much time... It's truly enthralling to observe the expertise and care many folks demonstrate in what I might guess was a hobby bled as much into a lifestyle — the many many shiny things also seem to peak my interest. That being said, I thought I would dare to introduce myself in my best attempt to avoid interloping unexpectedly.
Regrettably I have little(nothing) to contribute in the way of elegant watch photos, relevant knowledge or masterful experience. What I do bring is appreciation, enthusiasm, and a slightly obsessive personality with more taste than sense. My current wrist warmers are relegated to the few citizens and swatches I've picked up on my travels to celebrate special occasions. However, I have been saving for a good while and recently had multiple major life events I feel justified to commemorate with some special pieces. I have a particular love for vintage pieces, although I presume no match for many of the locals around these parts.
I have lived my entire life with a watch on my wrist, never anything particularly special. Generally speaking watches have always been more about function then form for me. Although I cannot help but appreciate a well dressed piece of quality engineering, human ingenuity and historical significance.
But enough of that.
Born in southern BC, I grew up travelling through many rural communities, eventually landing deep into the cold and foreboding northern reaches of the Province. This led me to the passion that takes up most of my attention. My career in Wildfire Response and Emergency Management. While I try to be frugal with hopes of eventually building a family and retiring I am also quite passionate in my indulgence. Exotic drinks(these days relegated to the non-alcoholic variety), enviable adventures over pristine landscapes, reading, writing, crafting, all of the boring things you might expect.
My current goals mostly revolve around increasing my financial literacy and business acumen. I am always looking for opportunities to expand my horizons and learn new things; especially about people and their passions. So I'm very excited to continue learning about this phenomenal hobby and its expansive intricacies.
Perhaps more relevant is the start of a new journey. I do not want to get ahead of myself as I fear the consequence of haphazardly stepping into this realm of horology and watch enthusiasm. Unfortunately though I believe I have been bitten by the bug.
I look forward to all the future discussions! I am sure an addendum to this post will follow ,when I feel confident to take the time and elaborate on some of the pieces I am interested in, and hopefully folks who feel so inclined can tease me with excellent references to help satiate my appetite and inform my endeavours.
Best regards OF community!
