This or that - Apollo 11 50th vs. Tokyo 2020 Panda

I've decided that my next watch will be one of these two. As a Rolex guy, I'd like something a bit different in the collection but not the normal run of the mill Speedy.

So, which would you choose and why? If you have either, pictures would be greatly appreciated to sway me either way! My collection includes the following:
-Rolex GMT Master II (16710)
-Rolex DD40 (rose gold / chocolate dial)
-Rolex 116610LV (Hulk)
-Tudor Black Bay Black ETA
-Tudor Blue Snowflake (9411/0)

Pics below are form the internet. Thanks in advance for the input!

I hate these "which would you choose, and why" questions. It is better if the you make your case for each watch per your interest, then we can discuss those points. What draws you to each of these watches?

Like the two that you have chosen! With you being so heavily into Rolex maybe the Tokyo would just make you want a Daytona more. Maybe the Apollo 11 will slot in better to you collection and not feel “less than” in the long run.

A wrong date on a LE speedy, this won't happen so often... A souvenir of this crazy year. Tokyo Panda! That's my vote!

Those are both great watches.
Curious why you found those two in particular the most desirable.

Omega has made a number of Limited Edition or Special Edition watches over the years.
You may already know about this website, but it has a small write-up on their LE/SE Speedmasters.
https://watchbase.com/omega/speedmaster?sort=release

One of the things provided on that website is how many of each were made.
There were 6969 of the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary watches made.
And 2020 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics White Panda watches made (with an additional 55 of them within the 5 watch set).

If you're looking for a combination of the two (Apollo 11 historical significance & Panda dial), maybe keep an eye out for the A11 35th Anniversary edition, which is what the Tokyo Panda's dial colorway is based on.

I’d go Apollo 11. The Tokyo is nice, but at grey prices is pushing pretty close to the Apollo.

Fair question!

I like the panda because it's just damn sexy and has the classical vibe that fits within my collection (I also have a Grand Seiko SBGW153 and JLC Reverso 1931 tribute). I don't like the bracelet, which is partly what has thrown me off of the modern Speedy.

I like the 50th because it's a very modern looking piece with the flashes of gold. Absolutely love the bracelet and don't mind Buzz's rear end.

I'm not really after these because they're LE's. I buy my watches to wear and don't have any safe queens, including my DD40. I do take care of my watches, though. I'm not looking for a "which would retain value" response, because I kow at the end of the day if I ever have to release one, I won't lose too much money - which is ok with me.

It is strictly about looks here.

Looks, I still go Apollo but that’s subjective of course..

Then, I would go with the watch in the first pic you posted.
But that's my preference and not necessarily yours.

If it’s only about looks then...

Absolutely gorgeous, both of them.

This is what makes the decision so difficult!

Perhaps opportunity and/or fate will make the choice for you. I’m wearing this one right now; I passed on the other, multiple times.

It’s a shame about Buzz’s butt, because otherwise it’s an attractive watch.

Tokyo, I think.

But, more important: sell all those silly recent Rolexes and pick up four nice Ed Whites.

Haha, I gotta remember what forum I'm in! TRF'er for life!

As you're asking about looks... Buzz's butt is a showstopper for me, as it was for quite a few others here on OF judged on the many negative comments in a thread after it was announced. Having said this, that commentary was before we had the opportunity to see the watch for real so the weight of opinion might have subsequently shifted, but not so for me. I do like the Tokyo 2020 panda.

Just going off your Rolex and Tudor watches, aren't they already darkish dials? Even the Hulk while not black is a darker hue. Based on your desire for something different then you may enjoy reaching for the white panda when you feel like a break from your current stable.

This is kind of playing on my mind as well. I do have a Breitling Chrono SuperOcean (White dial / blue subdials) that I don't really consider part of the collection, as I don't wear it and am looking to move it. Also, my GS SBGW253 is while-dialed but other than that, you are correct - all dark dials.

Yeegads, as they say in the comics! Pretty nice also rans and unmentionables. You should be telling us what to get instead of asking for opinions. Very nice taste.
