If we plan this right I think we might just get away with it. We need three Mini Coopers, I can provide one of them. But remember, you're only supposed to blow the b::censored::y doors off.

Your watch has cal. 1020/1022 movement. It looks similar to ref. 198.066. Only way to know for sure is to have a look at the inside of the case back. In any case, it has nothing in common to OP's watches which all say Chronometer on the dial. It's not close to the ref. 166.032 you referred to either.

PS: 198.0066 is a quartz model, so the one in the linked has the wrong back.

I appreciate the straightforward answer, @TNTwatch – thank you very much. When I took the watch to the Omega store, the technician checked the caseback, but it seems it had been swapped. Have to search for a NOS version on eBay now – and a replacement crown as well. My apologies for the ignorance – I'm very much new to this. Thanks again.

Hey, no worries. Everyone is new once. What did you mean the case back had been swapped? Do you have pictures of the back and the movement?

I think the other watch I linked to had the case back swapped. That reference number, 198.0066, indicates a quartz model, not one with the 1020/1022 movement.

Huh, that's totally interesting. The only reason I thought the caseback had been swapped is that the Omega technician thought that was the case – probably because of the movement. This watch has an automatic movement. Super weird…

Interesting that yours has the same wrong ref. number. There should be another number once that one is crossed out like below. You could ask the technician to check on the serial number. That's probably the best way for now to know what the original ref. number was.

The movement is indeed cal. 1020 or 1022.

The same case was used for some later Rancheros:

I believe the technician said the original serial number was 34281668. Thanks so much for all of your sleuthing!

He could use that serial number to check in Omega's database to find the real reference number of your watch.

Right, that's what he did. And it listed the reference number as the one described: 198.0066, which doesn't make sense because it doesn't have the quartz movement. His suggestion was to (no joke) join OmegaForums and comment on this exact thread and ask @MSNWatch if he had any info about this variant. So, back to square one.

Omega's publication indicates ref. 198.0066 as an electronic watch, and looking up this ref. shows a lot of chronometer quartz watches. Your watch also has cal. 1020/1022 movement, but all of Mike's watch have cal. 564 or 751 movements so referring to this thread doesn't really make sense.

Using same reference number for more than one model would defeat the purpose of the reference number, especially when ordering replacement parts.

Does the technician you met have access to Omega's Extranet?

First off, using the serial number to look up the watch/case reference does not work with vintage watches, so the serial number in question is far too old to use for looking up the case.

I looked up the case reference in the case back that is crossed out, so 1980066, and it calls up a case that uses a Cal. 1230 electronic movement.

I looked at the photo of the case they display there, and on the inside of the case back they had the same printed hash marks over that case number as the forestcasey shows. However in addition to that there was a second case number printed in ink of 1660226. So I looked up this case number, and it's for a Cal. 1022 case. Now this case uses a square shaped mineral crystal, where the 198066 uses a round acrylic crystal, and the crown is different, etc. So it looks like a repurposing/dual use of the case back as we have seen before, but that doesn't explain why the case in the example above has the round acrylic crystal instead of the square mineral crystal...

    Odd.

    Cheers, Al

Well, this is an old thread, but I just see it now and I dont mind :D
At first glance I thought they were all Constellation, but then I realize, they are Seamaster!

Amazing hoarding though, I wanted to do it as well, but my wallet doesn't allow me ::facepalm2::
