Have been snooping around old advertisements - note the date window on the Polerouter Date below...

I believe that ad is from 1957 or 1958, when the date feature was introduced. The photo could have been from a prototype.

All the signed crystals that I have seen had the trapazoidal magnifier.

I own an example of the watch in the middle:

    Hope this helps,

. A beautiful piece - thanks for the pic. It is plausible the Date in the ad might have been a prototype and/or the cyclops was added to emphasize the date feature for purposes of the ad. I also have only seen signed crystals with the trapezoidal window. That said, I've been frequently amazed as of late by all kinds of variations on a theme when it comes to UG Polerouters - has put me in an "anything is possible" frame of mind these days. Boy, i'd love to get access to their archives (if they even exist anymore).

I remember someone mentioning in an other thread, that watches where often photographed without crystals in place to avoid reflections. The effect was added in "post-production." Hence often some discrepancies as compared to the real production models.

Is it signed? Otherwise, there is no way to know.

A signed cyclops would be the black swan indeed. What say you @Tony C?

Given that the crown isn't original, I would be strange if that crystal was. If you look at the advertisment, the date numbers appear non-refracted, while in real life, they would look like in Tony C's photo. The ad seems to be targerted not at the end consumer, but at dealers, so it might be quite early in the production life of specific models. In any case, when photographed, the crystals would probably not have been on the watch.

Ah, sorry, but I don't own that watch. The thread motivated me to do a brief search, so I can't answer the question.

This site - http://www.polerouter.de/frameset-sammlung.htm has a couple of examples with the cyclops window.

There's also this kind of window:

So, are these legit? I also have been wondering about those without windows at all. Are those accepted as originals too?

Last week I bought a UG Polerouter Date from the original owner (a nice old man, btw). It has the cyclops window, the crystal is signed and the seller assured me that he never changed it.

    Here it is:

Please show additional angles of the signed crystal for our benefit - I think I can see some of it in your photo. Thank you!

The last one is a Polerouter Super, and his crystal is perfectly legit for the model. Polerouter Super is 300 meters waterproof, and the cyrstal is completly different of standard Polerouter crystals. The loupe is not inside the crystal, it is like Rolex cyclops. But it still having some trapezoidal shape. If you look carefuly, you can note that the interior side of the loupe is sightly short than the exterior side.

Polerouter Sub also has a different crystal from the standard, but in this case the loupe is inside the crystal.

There's something there, but I couldn't tell you what it is.

Try to get the camera to focus on the crystal, not the dial.

Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe we have ourselves a discovery here. Thank you, @gop76 - a black swan, indeed: a signed, Polerouter cyclops crystal. Amazing.

Does anyone disagree/am I missing something?

I believe I read on Instagram that the circular cyclops were original and on salesman samples
