Thinking about this vintage Submariner 5513 200M...............

Vintage Rolexes are not my forte (generally prefer Omegas), but this one has me thinking as a first watch to get my toes wet.

Issues I can see:
Bezel (obviously) - are new inserts available? Do vintage bezels ever come up for sale? ($?)
Hands - no lume (obviously)
Dial - Lume tone inconsistent, a bit pale............relume?
scratches on back
Lugs look a bit polished

No idea on the movement (correct for this vintage?).

I have seen other complete 5513's go for ~$6-7k. Given its condition, would ~$4k be about right?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Four large is a good deal...............for the seller! Especially since (it appears to me) that this turkey is currently on a prominent auction site at $2,295.00, with no reserve! But I fail to see why you would consider this watch at any price! It is just short of 50 years old, and it looks to me like it has been worked on by, well, some jacka$$! Case back dented in when someone tried to remove the back with a cold chisel. Bezel, insert, tension ring gone! Likely because the inner bezel is so worn it will not hold a new bezel. Replacement case parts? Anybody know? Aftermarket? Are you the seller? This watch is close to a basket case in my view. Can anybody find anything good to say about it?

Crown looks decent 馃榿. How much do those go for?

Then, there may be some parts in the movement in decent shape 馃槜

Crystal?

It's a sought after reference 馃憤

This particular watch, however, fails in all department. Dial, hands, case... It's not as if Submariners are particular rare, so stay away from this dead end, as it'll never be an attractive watch again.

No, I am not the seller. I am just trying to get a better idea of value in current state and chances / $ for rectifying some of the issues. I am not saying I would pay $4k for it, but a 50% discount on some of the typical prices I have seen seemed a reasonable estimate, given my lack of knowledge re . vintage Rolex prices.

I think this one would only be good as a 'parts' watch... much less than 50% of 'typical' value!

hey, why not go for a minth ref 1600/1603 at 1/3 or 1/4th the price ...

cant get a nicer/more classic looking vintage watch ... and t.b.h. given the current "only a king's ransom is enough" prices for the subs, it also seems like a better value

If you want to buy a vintage Rolex, don't buy a cheap watch then spend a whack on repairs instead! Given the abuse this watch has suffered, the age, and the fact that (apparently) it is being offered for under $2,300.00, how did you come up with a $4,000.00 estimate of its value? It would be interesting to see a/ IF it sells, and b/ for what price! You're right! I don't like it!

Maybe you're figuring on buying this carcass for cheap, then trying to repair it for a total expenditure of ~ $4,000.00? I still think it's a bum deal!

Woof...I sold a 5512, given it had an RSC service matte lumi dial, bezel insert, hands, and new 93150 bracelet, for $5300 last year. $4k on that is brutal .

Sticking my head over the parapet and looking at this one.

Lume on dial and hands look a bit uniform and 'clean' - relume?
Lugs look well defined.
I gather 1560 movement is period correct.

Any thoughts re. condition, value (I promise not to post 875 similar threads on watches I am looking at).

Thanks in advance!

Movement should be a Cal. 1520, and it does look like this is what's in this watch, just that the bridge for the automatic has been replaced at some point from one with a 1560. This bridge is in rough shape as all the plating has been stripped off of it at some point. Rotor has been scraping the movement so it may need a new axle staked to the weight if that has not already been addressed.

Cheers, Al
