hi everyone

Just a FYI . this is still a work in progress..... The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversations.. having collectors either email me photo of there watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exist ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 4 pm EDT Sunday ....

THINGS WITH SPRINGS CH CHAT 08/0722

Remember the Clubhouse room is only as good as the collectors that join in.... please post a watch, timepiece , clock etc you want to chat about.

Be Safe

Good Hunting

For the alarm watch fans out there, the Movado Ermetophon. The Movado caliber is 900 but it is a modified AS alarm movement. Opening and closing the case winds the movement. The problem with that is if the watch is fully wound you can’t close the case without damaging something. In this example the ratchet wheel has numerous missing teeth.

Finally, on March 1, 1965, the results were in. The Rolex model stopped running on two occasions during the relative humidity test and failed one of the temperature tests. The Longines-Wittnauer also failed one of the temperature tests as well as the decompression test. Then, there was the Omega Speedmaster: It gained 21 minutes during the decompression test and lost 15 minutes during the acceleration tests. The luminous material on the dial was destroyed, but all in all, the Omega chronograph performed satisfactorily. It was unanimous - the Speedy won by a landslide. However, NASA suggested a few improvements and modifications: the addition of a 24-hour rotating bezel and luminous markings to the elapsed time dials.

Here are a couple of shots of my IWC Delirium. That's right: An IWC-branded Delirium! The factory has verified it, but this was not a model that was produced in any volume...

And here's just how slim it is!

Too bad I can't find a battery to fit it - no modern battery is thin enough!

Here's a look at the Delirium movement:

And here's an ad for the battery!

I’m looking at these Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm WW2 ‘Air Ministry’ A.M. 6B/159 watches at the moment. I missed out on this one at £670. I’m sure it looks like a redial.

A Watch I’ve seen advertised as ‘military’. It reminds me of the new CK859 but original. Is it worth a punt to get and send to a Watchmaker to try and fix?

hi phil and Stephen...

from site
OMEGA LA MAGIQUE ‘SCARFACE’ 18k YELLOW GOLD REFERENCE 191.852Z
Offered here is a stunning example of the rare OMEGA LA MAGIQUE ‘SCARFACE’ 18k YELLOW GOLD REFERENCE 191.852Z 18K with a brown alligator leather strap. Manufactured circa 1984.
La Magique ‘SCARFACE’ Description And Details
The Omega La Magique is an equally emblematic 1980s timepiece, perfectly suited for the complex character portrayed by Al Pacino. The Omega La Magique was released in 1982 and featured the analog electronic quartz Omega Caliber 1357. Only 261 of this reference (BA 191.8523 Z) were ever manufactured. A previous version with a Caliber 1356 was produced in larger quantities. The timepiece in the film was an 18k solid yellow gold timepiece, with sapphire crystal, and a gold chain bracelet. While the La Magique is sometimes called the ‘Phantom’ for its transparent dial, the watch in the film also had a similar dial but the case and bracelet are distinctly different. This transparent dial creates the effect of the watch’s hands floating over the wearer’s skin, hence the name ‘La Magique’.

Scarface was a film that was meant to highlight the life of a 1980s Miami cocaine dealer; guns, booze, women…and cocaine, of course. So, to match it, the character needed a suitable timepiece.

This yellow 18k gold 35mm wide by 28mm classically styled LA MAGIQUE ‘SCARFACE’ with contrasting brown leather strap falls nicely into the category of a time-honoured mid-size dress watch. The black dial with its contrasting gold roman numerals and yellow gold hands enhance the overall appearance of this beautiful piece. It’s powered by the Omega dependable quartz 1357 movement.
The overall condition of this stunning LA MAGIQUE ‘SCARFACE’ is very good, the 18k yellow mirror-finished stepped case is unmarked along with its contrasting brown leather strap and yellow gold Tang buckle. The dial and numeral markers are all consistent in colour along with their floating gold hands.
This stunning rare piece is accompanied by its original Omega box, manuals, original purchase receipt, guarantee & service papers dated 16/04/2021.
