Most agree that the Grail watch is a very personal thing- something you lust after above all other watches. Then there is the Universal Grail - a watch almost everyone has at the top of their wish lists. So often, these two interersect. But what about the "Odd Grail"? The watch you really want, but very few others are interested in. Do you have one of those?
This is mine: the Vacheron Royal Chronometre. 35mm, manual wind. Certainly not at the top of everyone's hit list, but it is of very high quality, and something about it always appealed to me. Uncommon in pink gold.
Mine would be this Vacheron & Constantine 6782 in white gold, circa 1964. I passed one up 5 or 6 years ago that I felt was overpriced at a well-known Italian dealer. Haven't found another one since - at least one that could be bought. I do not regret selling watches, I regret very much certain ones I did not buy, and this certainly near the top of that list. photo credit to member @terencaho on watchprosite http://www.watchprosite.com/page-wf.forumpost/fi-14/ti-1067353/pi-7766503/
I have two, my Zenith Defy and my TV dial Speedmaster. The Zenith literally made me gasp when I first saw it. As for Big Bertha, well, I love it and that's all that counts.
That's the one with the compass underneath isn't it.? Was reading one of your old posts in a thread the other day and saw it again. One cool piece ( wondered if you still had it )
It is! Awesome little watch really. One of the coolest features is that each link in the bracelet is 5mm, so you can use it to measure distance on a map.
An odd grail of mine would certainly be an Enicar Super Graph. I'm not the only one that would like to get a hold of one, but we're not that common either
Over the years I've accumulated pretty much all the watches that I've wanted. Many were pieces that I lusted after as a kid like the odd Titanium I had on yesterday: I've got my VC which I think has the prettiest movement going and is the ultimate "less is more" wristwatch, even though I regularly toy with the idea of parting with her because I tend to reach for the old Cyma when I want a dress watch (the VC is just too exclusive for most occasions) ... This year I finally got the metres first that I'd always wanted ... Which means that the only thing left on the list of watches that are really "needed" as opposed to "wanted" is a good, working example of this ... (Photo shamelessly stolen from the interweb)
As a grad student I put so many forehead prints on the Jewelers window. I always coveted the platinum but I settled for the YG.
