    Seiko-5-Sports-SSK00XK1.009.jpg

So I didn't think I needed yet another SKX version in my life, but the SKX style case from the new 5 line, and a GMT hand, AND the applied hour markers from the new 5's in classic SKX shape with only a .01 mm increase in thickness...

If only someone made great-looking ceramic bezel inserts for these with 24-hour markers... Oh, wait they already exist in multiple colors!!!! Although the bezel inserts are apparently already Hardlex, and shiny, which should be an improvement over the plain aluminum bezel inserts esp on the Orange one.

Bracelet is an updated version of the old SKX Jubilee, which seems good to me.

So is there a better travel watch out there at this point? The one drawback is that it is a fixed 24-hour hand, which is not really a problem for most, especially at this price point, which I admit it is slightly higher than I had expected at around 500 USD.

It's interesting that they removed the day function on this one and added a cyclops. Neither pro nor con, just interesting. Also, does anyone want to tell him a fixed GMT means you can only tell the time in 2 zones without changing settings...

All the Seiko Mod groups must be having a field day… A practical use for all those 24 hour bezels

    Oh… and Sub cases

Jest aside, I do think this super entry level GMT is neat and a fun/easy way to expand any current or beginner collection. If I wasn’t so focused on adding other pieces, I would be sorely tempted to add this one for the fun of it. Thank you for sharing!

I found it hard to find an answer in the article and the comments.

Is the GMT hand able to be set independently from the hour hand?
Or is it slaved to the hour hand à la the Seiko World Time?

The Seiko SNR033 GMT hand can be set to a time zone then home time can be set, but at AUD$7,750 not for me.

    According to Hodinkee
    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/t...as-arrived-with-the-seiko-5-sports-gmt-series

“Seiko developed this movement off of its classic Caliber 4R. It's called the 4R34 and it is a "Caller" GMT, meaning that the hour hand cannot be independently or separately operated, however you have to expect that at this price point.”

If I get the idea right, this is more a 24hour complication than a GMT function.

Same GMT function as the eta2893 if I am not mistaken... Great value, I am quite tempted.

Me too - I suspect it would be the orange one for me.

I thought the 2893 has an independent hour hand set in hour increments?

I have been waiting for Omega to produce a wearable Sport GMT. I had my eye on the Longines Zulu GMT, but had second thoughts. This Seiko seems like a good way to go until Omega can figure out how to make a wearable (read not thick) GMT. I thought by now they would have made the SMP into a GMT.

I'm personally excited for Seiko to make these as bulk movements (similar to the NH35/36) and the influx of microbrand GMTs it will bring.

Independent GMT hand, yes. The regular 12h hand function remains unchanged wrt base caliber. A "caller GMT" as the Americans say.

If you are curious the 4r34 user manual is up on the corporate seiko website.

So the case basically has the same proportions as the 007? It looks great IMO.

Yup just a hair thicker apparently to make room for the extra hand.

I was speaking to the chap who repairs my watchers and he is expecting them incoming next month. He also mentioned a limited edition PADI.

I think these will be classics just like the SKX divers became. Hope to get the orange one.

At the price point for these beauties, I would say all colours is feasible. I will own a few and will mod one for fun.

Hmmmm, very nice. Not sure about the cyclops, but as I’ve had GMTs on my radar for a while these are a welcome addition.
