The science of 10:10 on watch ads

So I looked down at my watch this morning and saw 10:10 and thought ahh that looks amazing and I’m pretty sure all watch ads look like this. It sent me down a black hole - why is all the watch content targeted at me always showing 10:10… so I googled it (apologies if this has been discussed before) and found this brilliant Hodinkee article on it.

In a world where we are constantly consumed by bad news and depressing world events, and 2022 hasn’t exactly been a fun year… here’s something I wanted to share that I learnt today

Very interesting. I thought it was more to do with that hand position being the least likely to obscure features on the dial on average. Neat.

Also reminds me of how iPhones are almost always shown with 9:41 as the time on the screen because that was the time when Steve Jobs first unveiled it. I was in the audience at that Macworld Expo.

Cool beans…thanks for posting that…very informative! 👍

On a side note, anybody ever encounter the old “peg leg” problem when photographing your watch(es)? Maybe it’s just me, but fairly often when I’m taking a watch pic, the minute and hour hands are in the “peg leg” position…one hand directly over the other…drives me bonkers! 😵‍💫

Interesting article.

Whether in online forums or advertising campaigns, my attraction to a particular watch has never been influenced by the indicated time.

I personally like the 8:20 look. 🙁
8:20 is best with my Nipple Dial Coke for sure Dan. 2:55 not so much

Enjoyed the article.

But I always thought they were supposed to be set to 1:50! ::facepalm1::
