is it the size that causes it to get less love? or perhaps its funky explorer wannabe dial?

Dial too busy for me, too many numerals squashed together.......

I agree. This is mine from 1999 and I much prefer this version.

quite some variations it seems, but definitely some of the modern ones are a no go for me, just too busy

Love the older Air King models.

The current one has too much ROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEX ... around the perimeter of the dial to suit me.

engraved rehaut has made me turn away from many of the recent moderns

Modern ones just have far too much going on for me and looks unbalanced busier at the bottom

Used to have this one. For me size was the factor to sell it, ended up buying 40mm explorer 2 with tritium dial. But, I like white roman dial better, than anyone else.

love the watches....however a little small for me. 34mm for the vintage ones does not fly for me.

ah thats another on the consideration list, but Ive been after something with a blue dial for some time now. well to be fair, ive been after something with a screw down crown, no date, 36-38mm case diameter. love my explorer 2, but for some reason the 14270 does nothing for me even though this blue air king shares the 3-6-9. i did like the indices. its gonna be tough decision

Too much numerals, too buisy dial, too much colours,.... a lot of “too’s” if you ask me.

From too many too’s on the new models to not enough twos on the vintage ones.

The poor wee watch can’t win...

I quite like the older ones actually.
Do they wear small? I’d have thought the opposite with the bracelet

This seems to be growing on me daily. I think it's an excellent everyday watch fitting neatly under a shirt cuff, and different from the multitude of subs.

Can't beat a dash of colour on the dial also.
