Thanks for the info. Any idea where I can find info regarding the Star Speedy's use in space? Were the 1972 Star Speedy's ever used in space? I found some info that suggests Reinhard Furrer's Omega had a case made by Star, but it is supposedly a 1978. http://monochrome-watches.com/auction-hammer-bonhams-auction-reinhard-furrer-omega-speedmaster/

I'd really like to find information about how many of the Omegas supplied to NASA had Star cases, and how many of those Stars were used in space.
I think the best place to ask is NASA. Some of those 56 watches must have been used for sure. One more article about them here: http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-weve-found-an-astronauts-speedmaster-professional/.

2014 behind the scenes was a banner year for NASA Speedmasters research. I see 2015 being a good year for additional information being made available to the public.

Star made the cases for the Alaska watches, I know they certainly produced the cases for the 56 Radial dial watches ordered in 1978 after the Alska III trials (which Star also made the cases for the majority of those trial watches, including the 1045 FIFA 1103's radial and non radial watches and the Speedsonic radial watches), I believe Star also made the cases for the 12 Alaska IV LCD cal 1621 watches

Here's one of the Radials produced as part of the Alaska III tests along with examples of the two other watches submitted (Speedsonic and 1103, which later became the fifa) and also the Speedmaster 1621 'beta light' produced as the Alaska IV watches (12 made, one of which was found on eBay a couple of years ago and snagged by one of my mates for the princely sim of £1000)

What of Schirra's watch? I know it was purchased privately by him. Is it possible that it had a case made by the Star Watch Case company?

The real practical Moonwatch ?
A Helbros quartz watch displaying lunar time as " lunar daylight " lasts for 14,7 Earth days... so a permanent crew living in a lunar base needs to keep time in Lunations (Lunes & Lunours with Full Moon being 15 Lunes). Comparable to living with light and darkness on Earth poles.
Astronomer Dr Kenneth Franklin, director of the Hayden planetarium (1972), was the innovator who created the lunar watch...
