Odd when you find yourself shocked at the death of someone who is 96 but it’s almost like I expected her to live another 50 years. Found this nice picture of one of her watches

It looks good with the crown and bling necklace but might be a bit much with faded jeans and a sweater.

Maybe jeans, sweater, that watch, PLUS crown and jewellery?

I am confident I could pull that look off.

The reason it feels shocking is that for most of us, she’s been queen literally before and during our lives. It’s unsettling to loose a fixture like this. Weird milestone.

Right. 70 years. Regardless of how one views the issue of whether there is a place for royalty in modern society, she was an icon and a class act.

I have been following the news since Her Majesty passed. She was dignity personified. She has lived her life in service to our country, a position she could not resign from, no retirement age at 65. No clocking off at 5pm for a cup of tea. No matter what one thinks of the Monarchy as an institution, she deserves our respect and thanks. May she rest in peace.

I agree, but I don't understand the obsession with the British Royalty here in the US.

Buyer's remorse?

For me the US has no real sense of history. That like other things we imported the bits we like, so we could ignore the other stuff. I live in one of the oldest communities in California, Yet it barely has 200 years of 'Modern' history. I have watches and watch parts that are older (or of similar age.) Granted there was a population here before with at least 10,000 years of history (but sadly lost.)

One day I woke up knowing the succession of kings and queens in England and the UK. Guess it was all that time at the Ren fair and watching Dr Who. (which is secretly an educational program.) On the other hand I would have lost money, I thought he would choose George VIII for his Grandfather.

It certantly is the start of a new era.

I can't believe she had a counterfeit PP. 😁

I am guessing it was probably a gift from Patek.

Your watch on the most recognized, enduring and respected statesman ( women ) in modern history, you can't buy that sort of advertising.

Not sure the royals are allowed to accept large gifts from commercial entities or even other governments. IIRC, they have a pretty strict policy about this.

My counterfeit comment was just a silly joke BTW because of the way every watch posted to the forum is greeted with the "redial" chorus. Obviously it's legit. The royals have the money to buy whatever they want, and the monarch will generally have a lot of bespoke items.

I live in a city named after a lord who received the state as a land grant from
The king. The state flag is the family crest of said lord. We still have ground rent here, a vestige of the feudal system. It is very much ingrained in our culture wether we know it or not…at least here in the original 13 colonies.

Is it just me that thinks that photo of the Queen makes her look particularly creepy?
