@Rifish +1

If you get used to the ladder bracelet it's a Keeper.

I wear both ladder bracelet and suede straps - both fit well well imho - the strap should not be too fancy.

@Jkuback Have you had any issues where thicker straps would not fit due to the hidden lug position?

For me personally the Gay Freres bracelet really completes the Defy and it isn't quite the same watch without it. I'd happily wear one with strap but if I had the bracelet that's what it would be staying on, so much character.

Yes, I agree. If you compare Defy for example to Rolex Datejust, DJ works with both metal jubilee bracelet and leather strap. Gay Freres Ladder bracelet is designed for Zenith and is very important part of the identity of Defy. Defy is all about that octagonal case and GF ladder bracelet. These two things make this late 60' and early 70's Defy. But still Defy looks very cool with leather strap but at least I would always try to buy Defy with the orginal bracelet so that I would have both options.

I have used ColaReb strap with Defy and it is about 4 mm thick at the end of the strap. It fitted ok to that hidden lug position.

No issues so far - but the suede straps are a bit softer - also good to wear imho

Congrats @jshaw083! That is very nice piece.

I got one more Defy for my collection. This time a bit rare one A3644. Unfortunately it does not have Gay Freres ladder bracelet but otherwise it was a great find.

Ok, I continue my monolog. Here is my latest purchase: Turquoise dial Defy. The case is not in very good shape and it does not have the orginal GF bracelet (this bracelet is from another Defy)
but that turquoise dial is just amazing. I really love it.

Looks awesome! Congrats! I wonder why they didn't use the orange lume for the seconds hand on that model. I think it would've looked great with the contrast

I hope this is also the right place for the following post:

As defy addict I always follow defy ads in various sources. And there (Austrian ad Board) I found the following example:

I post it here because I think the condition is good and the ad is interesting - I am not in buying mode at the moment plus I find the price a bit high.

IMPORTANT: I can provide the link if someone is interested, I don't know, the watch nor the seller and have no additional information - just found the piece interesting and thought it maybe something for the defy addicts here

@Mod: if I am not allowed to Post this here I am sorry, and don't hesitate to delete this post immediately.

Got to get back to the first message of this thread and how many vintage Defy models there are.

I found a picture below about white dial Defy with bulky silver indeces but not exactly the same indeces that Zenith used on other Defy models. This have caliber 2552 PC. You can not find this kind of combo from the first message. I think this was one of the first Defy models and made in 1969.

I love the pictures in this thread. I've been considering an early Defy model. I like the smoke dial, but if I buy one, I much rather buy the turquoise or burgundy dial. And I have no idea where to find one at a reasonable price.

Octagonal case and burgundy/turquoise dial Defy are rare and hard to find. I have hardly seen those on sale on last few years. Actually I have seen one burgundy and one turquoise dial on sale and I was lucky to buy them.

Burgundy/turquoise dials in tonneu case are much easier to find, but I like much more octagonal case which look much nicer but is also very comfort on wrist.

What about white or black dial Defy in octagonal case?

I've never seen that one. Do you know the reference number?

I think nobody knows the reference number but the guess is that could it be A3641?

You forgot the A3637 but I don't know if it was part of the Defy Line because it was a subsea 1000m water resistant model (photo from the internet)

Yes, it is not part of the Defy line and it does not have octagonal case.
