In the nineties a very popular Danish radio show had an adult film maker in the studio to have an easy-going debate about pronography. A part of the programme was dedicated to making up new names for adult movies, with listeners phoning in their suggestions - some hillarious titles came up, I can tell you!

After a short break, the film maker wasn't to be found and the hosts sent out a runner to find him - they located him in the photocopying room, where he was trying to make a copy of the paper with the suggestions!

I have a feeling that the auction houses are reading this thread doing something similar 馃榿

Oh, and in the spirit of the above: "Shockproof - Gold Sports Watches from Adult Film Actors" (certificate of authenticity NOT included, all watches thoroughly cleaned).

Usually when we reach this stage we find ourselves back in the 30's so Art Deco madness is about due its rerun.

This weekend's auctions have put the capstone on 12-18 months of bottle rocket rise of steel 1960s chrono prices. That trip appears about over for regular folks, at least as we have enjoyed it to date. I think there is still some life around the edges for careful prospectors, but bargains are going to be very, very few and very far between.

Now, anyone can get the watch of the moment if they have access to Scrooge McDuck's vault. The trick for the rest of us is to anticipate where the limelight will shine next.

Simply put: What is the title for Phillips' next thematic auction?
Rusty old hipster watches ....

True - this trend is emerging in furniture design. I think it has to do with the fact that the recession and the unstable times after 9/11 are nearly forgotten, so people will start looking for more daring design and look past the more well known/classic/conservative/ pieces that have been on the rise the last 8 years.

Still vintage sport chronos I'd imagine. Doubt it's divers, I expect a focus on racing - maybe even specific to Heuer.

Yin and Yang: Two Paths from the Factory

I think that it would be really cool to see an auction where they highlighted two examples of a reference, one near NOS or in excellent condition, and the other in all original, but heavily worn, patinated condition survivor that is very pleasing. The key here would be curate examples that demonstrate what happens to the watch after years and years of wear, not abuse.

As far as the next thing, I think that it is going to condition--collectors are going to have to focus on lesser watches in either exceptional condition or heavily patinated and worn, yet original.

Love this idea. I think this would be a very cool themed thread on here. I don鈥檛 have any examples I could contribute sadly.

Shoot, Movado have been getting crazy numbers as of late. Not so sure the cat is not out of the bad on those chronos.

I can't top that. I was going to do something using uncle, but it's moot now after that post.

I was able to snap this candid shot at one of the auction houses this weekend:

Man, that guy looks a lot like the guy I see when I shave.
