·They could have done a 1:1 with its original 40mm size, but no- they had to mess around with it.
Although- what Dinky didn’t say and I haven’t seen elsewhere is wether the 43mm is including the crown guards. If it is, then the actual case size is probably more around 40-41mm which would be fine.

·I think it’s beautiful. The vintage collectors would prefer smaller, (And I agree with Jw’s post above) but the normal, non collector, one-watch type would find the dial on a smaller case too small. The bezel is thick and uses a lot of those 43 mms. There are probably more non collectors out there and Longines will profit more from them.

·Forgetting the historical connection, the case looks way too bulky. Considering the historical connection, there are many odd design choices: crown guards (radical departure from original), signature (originals were in cursive), pencil-style hands (though found on original examples, most associate cathedral-style hands with ref. 3582).

·I will just say that a 43mm square case wears much larger visually than a 43mm round case. Just think how large it is across the diagonal. Takes up a lot of real estate. Even my vintage Longines Majetek seems massive on my wrist.

·I like the dial and hands. The case is a bit odd with modern looking lugs and crown guard.

·I always associate the pencil-style hands with (German) military and non-military 12.68z while I love the beauty of the cathedral-style hands on Greenlander and Majetek. Guess if you take these watches, add a Panerai and put them in a mixer, the result would be close to the new reedition 😀
