Bit of background: I've had this SM 300 for about 5 years but never really loved it. I acquired it from the widow of the original owner who was a wreckdiver in the North Sea. When he passed away the 2 floors of the house which he used (the other 2 were joint use with his wife) his family had to clear tons of stuff. The watch was found in an Omega service box with the original guarantee but the widow want to throw it away. Her son in law put it on a local Gumtree like site where I managed to acquire it (after a VERY fast ride...). The lume was poor and the hour hand was replaced. I assume because the watch got flooded.

Fast forward 2019: after having seen the work of James Hyman (insta: https://www.instagram.com/thealchemistrelumer/) I decided to ask him to relume the watch and hands. I already managed to source a correct hour hand with the help of some people at OF. James did a wonderful job! He mailed me the original lume seemed to be fixed by glue or so, and as you can see in the pics it was also a bit run out from the original location, so removing it was not easy (and some residu can still be seen).

The result is, IMHO, very nice!!!!

So much for the holes at 6 and 12 signifying originality. :)
    Looks vastly improved.
    Congrats

Looks a great deal better now but the fact that the lume has pin holes means that there is another tell that we cannot 100% rely on.

That's a really nice example you have and for sure you will wear it way more than what you were used to! James is a real artist
You did the right choice ;)

Nice watch. Congratulations. I took the same route and had the hands of my SM300 relumed. I did not relume the dial though. I think it is okay if the original state is to bad and you actually want to wear a watch. Enjoy it!

Looks great, I never liked the green(ish) lume some 300’s have. One thing I don’t understand though is the exaggerated pin holes, why are these always made so big when they are relumed?

I think it looks great. I wonder what will happen to the specter of originality on collector grade watches in another decade or 2 when it's impossible to tell what is original without a forensics investigative team.

The original looks like a redial and the redial looks original, so this was a fantastic job and good decision.

    Enjoy it!

I think that it looks fantastic!

All that matters is your enjoyment and full disclosure in the event of a sale.

Wonderful! I always ask myself: why it's legit to restore a vintage car and not a vintage watch? ;)
