Headed down to Portland last week to pick up some replacement discs from Disc Golf Depot. They have a great selection of new and used discs, and the kids found some fun designs that they loved. we tried them out at the baskets at WSU-V campus and then took them to Glenwood, which is a 9-hole course in Vancouver WA put together by a church. It's a fairly straightforward course with very little technical skill needed so perfect for a 6 and 3 year old accompanied by a 40 year old man with a busted elbow. 馃榿

My 3 year old's prized "batman" (a gateway prototype signed by Ken Climo)

My 6 year old holds up a Buzz Ultraviolet glow that Mrs. Pryde selected for herself

The replacement for my broken wizard- although I prefer the black wizard my 6 year old picked out, this flies well.

Shot of the day was the 6 year old nailing a put into basket at 10 yards! 馃槻馃グ

I knew I remembered reading about disc golf on OF, and lo and behold I found the thread! When I first read this thread it was the first time I'd heard of disc golf and I didn't think too much more of it. But my 15yr old son has (seemingly randomly) become obsessed with it and, like any dutiful dad, I've been sucked in as well. Have to say I'm starting to enjoy it. Played a round with my local group (I'm in the south of the UK) last night and didn't embarrass myself as I had done previously. It's strangely addictive. Some of the players in my local group are unbelievably good. I still haven't got a long drive but I'm throwing straighter and more reliably. I hate trees, although they seem to love me. The collector in me is having to resist the urge to collect discs!

There are a few courses near-ish to me, but wish there were more. Still can't believe this sport is as popular as it is and yet I'd never heard of it until I saw this post all that time ago. Strange to think I'm now a regular player with my own bag of discs and an obsessed son who's watching it on his tablet if he's not playing it!

In the UK I definitely prefer playing it in the summer though...

Landed one of my best shots yesterday while I was out with my littlest- a 70 ft hyzer I dropped into the basket with a champion Roc3. I came close, very close to replicating it a couple other times but just couldn't quite!

Got some decent action shots of the kids- my 7 year old can throw just about a hundred feet, possibly slightly more, with the mid/fairway style discs (especially a lighter leopard he picked out).my 4 year old threw a couple around 40 feet. Both these guys are going to be out throwing me soon, I'm certain of it.

Ah glad this was revived. This was the thread that made me DM Alex as I never knew this was a thing I found the idea pretty cool as I used to like throwing the frisbee around plus hiking it seemed brilliant. I did try golf a few times but I was not born with the patience to work on that swing. Baseball was cool my last at bat was a stand up triple (yes there was one error on the play) but then you do the weekend warrior baseball games I noticed I鈥檇 be more apt to come home injured as I鈥檇 try to copy an old Pete Rose slide or other dumb things.

I did find a course in my area and my buddy got a set just to toss out back. My doc benched me for a short period until I get a CT scan some surgeries last year left me beat up I always think I鈥檓 back to 100% then I do some DIY stuff on a roof and I鈥檓 reminded I鈥檓 not. With the nice weather finally back I think I鈥檒l be throwing the frisbee in a week or two.

I gotta be honest Alex, it鈥檚 a bit chilling when you related you were doing this activity a couple days before your stroke. Life sure is a funny old dog. Must mess you up thinking about that versus now but don鈥檛 you dare lose hope.

A couple years back I arrived at a hiking trail the same time an organization that trains dogs for wounded warriors was pulling in. A bunch of vets and their new dogs got out with the trainers. I couldn鈥檛 help but walk over, pet the pups and thank the vets. The invited me to hit the trails with them holy cow the injuries these guys were coming back from were staggering. Too many TBI鈥檚 to mention.

I鈥檓 gonna make it a point to bring some of the guys from our clinic frisbee golfing this year. I guarantee we will have a lot of laughter that day.

Keep gettin better. Nothin left to do but smile smile smile

I'm not as regular a visitor to OF these days so hadn't read you'd had a stroke @Aroxx. To be playing just a few days before is very sobering. I hope you're recovering well.

Was a lovely sunny morning today so my son and I headed to a relatively new course at Alice Holt near Farnham, Surrey which is about 30m drive for us. It's a fairly technical course entirely in the forest. It's only 9 holes and we played the short tees today (twice). I got -1 for both rounds which I was delighted with. My best rounds by far. Always nice to beat my son (especially as I know he's better than me).

Wore my Smiths Trans Global as it looks great in the sun and I prefer a bracelet for activities.

That's cool @ErichPryde! I'll show my son tomorrow I'm sure he'll be very jealous!

I shot my first round at even par yesterday. It's a very short 9 hole in Devon so I'm not going to get too excited but it's all progress. My son posted -5. He's so much better than me.
