Canada did still take out the men’s curling so at least they have that and don’t need to hold a royal commission into the results
Took out the #1 ranked team in the final, so a good result for sure.

No worries. You guys only need to win the gold 6 more times to catch us...
Ya, hockey golds are few and far between for the U.S., so they're really special.

The refs who blew a ton of calls, like when the US had 7 men on the ice, well they should probably go incognito for a while.
Of the four official for the game, 2 were Canadian, 1 each from USA and Finland.

Please don't forget the 5-on-3 for almost two minutes and the late power play on which Team Canada got nothing. Calls were no better or worse than your average NHL game, which means plenty missed against both teams and some that probably should not have been called at all.

Credit to Hellebuyck. Without him, it would not have been pretty for the US.

Yes, I know the nationalities involved. That doesn't matter - when you have 7 players on the ice (not including the goalie) and one of them actually plays the puck, that is an egregious missed call with officlals standing right there. The refs also missed the same call during another Canada game. As refs these are pretty rookie mistakes to be making at this level of competition - this isn't your average NHL game, it's the Olympic gold medal game FFS...

The other calls not being made - those I can live with and are basically the refs taking a "let them play unless something is really bad" approach, which is common in the playoffs in the NHL.

As one of your players said, your goalie stole the game for the US. We had the far better team, but somehow your goalie kept you in it.

I personally hate the 3 on 3. You play 60 minutes of proper hockey, then play a completely different game for the OT? I realize they do it for time constraints, but it's a poor way of deciding a hockey game - the only thing worse is penalty shots.

As most know I play a lot of tennis, so this is like playing in a doubles match in a Grand Slam, being tied at 1 set each, and for the last set you now have to suddenly play singles. Or game 7 of the NBA finals becomes 1/2 court 3 of 3. Absolute nonsense, and I would feel the same no matter what way the games went (we won in 3 on 3 OT on the men's side to get to the gold medal game).

I was kind of looking for “the Great One” to be at the U S bench, congratulating the team!

It would not have surprised me, but he's trying hard to repair his reputation here - mostly in vain.

I agree with you here. My spidey sense tells me that this was the price extracted by the NHL to allow their players to return to the Olympics. They didn’t want to expose them to injury more than absolutely necessary. A full 5-on-5 with unlimited OT would have gone on much longer.

Next time, they should use the NHL regular season system (3-3+shootout) for preliminary round and playoff rules in the knockout round.

Too many men penalties are missed in almost every NHL game. Only way I can see to police that would be to have 2 additional officials stationed between the benches, one responsible for watching each team’s substitutions. Even that won’t work when puck is on other side of the ice.

The rest of your rant was saying exactly what I said in a different way.

If it wasn’t for two Canadian referees on the ice in the Fin-Can game making sure McKinnon lifting Mikkola’s stick and filming that it hit him in the face was passed and an offside that wasn’t called immediately before the game winning goal despite Finnish coach’s challenge, Canada wouldn’t have been playing in the final.

Anyway, thank you Canada for ice hockey.

That one save psyched out our team. That was pure art. 44-28 shots on goal favouring Canada. I would say goaltending was the key to victory.

I’m old enough to remember the sour grapes for Canada in Nagano 1998, they were so sour that there was even talk in Canada about how these games should be pre fixed show games to ensure the ”best” always get their gold, lol! Oh, it tasted so sweet.

I’m sure you wouldn’t have had any problem if there would’ve been two Finnish referees refereeing a crucial game between Fin-Can? In what other sport do you see this? That’s right. No other sport. It’s NHL trying to secure European nations don’t win too often.

And calling a super dubious penalty for Canada with only seconds left of the game, instead of the usual ”let’s play, no more calls” line usually held by referees in these final games would’ve been completely acceptable to you too? Not to mention that offside that wasn’t called despite the challenge.

Only the best kind of wine, best served chilled at dessert time!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noble_rot
I've only had one bottle of this style of wine - one of my nephews in Australia brought me this from a vineyard close to where he lives:

I carried it half way around the world, and did a side by side comparison with a late harvest from an Ontario winemaker...so this is not quite an ice wine, but close:

The noble rot was...rotten to my taste, so I'm not a fan.

Oh, 1998. Still living with that….ruined my life. Just wondering what’s your point in trolling on this thread. You must have misread the title. But please, be our guest and whine about irrelevant shit.

Just normal discussion about something current with a Canada connection, isn’t it?

And I did write:

”Anyway, thank you Canada for ice hockey.” Which is appreciation.

While you’re trolling about cheese and shit…
