As some of you know, my sister finally lost her ten year battle with cancer, a couple of days before Christmas. What came as a complete surprise was when I received a letter from my brother-in-law to say that Debbie had left me a sum of money, in her will, to "buy a watch, by which to remember me" After more than a few tears, I started to think what might be appropriate. I could buy a number of vintage watches, but that would not be "a watch"; I could buy a special vintage watch, but that would have become a safe-queen and not really in the spirit of the "by which to remember me" I had an idea for something that was new and I didn't want to add more than a few hundred £ to it, or it wouldn't have fitted the original intent so, after a discussion with some of the members here that I have "known" since before I joined OF, I took the plunge. As a new, albeit special watch, I will have no qualms about wearing it regularly and have already worn it a couple of times. If you had been at the London GTG, last week, you would have seen it on the day it arrived but for everyone else, here it is: It is a bit like a Russian doll; here is the original packaging as delivered to the AD It gets prettier as you peel back the layers It could be the dashboard from a 1950s Jaguar Now the true beauty is revealed There is also the other Dealer's packaging and the leather hang-tag So, here is the watch All I can say is, "Thank you Debbie. I will always remember you with love and affection." This will be passed to my nephew after I have shuffled off my mortal coil.
Well done. That is one of the few contemporary models that I admire, and a lovely tribute to your sister.
