But how much more is out there.. Love the reading. This great hobby is a mine field.. . https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-Dayt...13.TR10.TRC2.A0.H0.Xrolex.TRS2&LH_TitleDesc=0Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network . As many of you know this Rolex Daytona is known as a 16520 Daytona or "Zenith Daytona". The reason it was coined the " zenith daytona" is because Rolex actually used a Zenith movement in their watches. They would purchase the movements from Zenith, which at the time made the best quality chronograph movements, then Rolex would modify the movements to Rolex quality standards. This particular Rolex was salvaged from severe water damaged and pieced back together. At the time the corrosion in the movement was not salvageable so the watch uses a Zenith movement, not a Rolex modified Zenith movement. The mechanism is exactly the same and everything on the watch operates as it should. The rest of the parts of the watch are original Rolex, that being said, to clarify all of the parts mentioned below are original Rolex Parts: The Dial All hands (6 hands) Crystal Crown Bezel Bracelet End links The watch has also now been tested and is waterproof to 3ATM. These 16520 Daytona's are now trading at upwards of $20,000 with the cheapest on ebay listed at $22,000 at the moment. I understand this is not 100% original so I do not expect those prices but the dials for these watches are trading at $3,000 for just the dial. This is a great piece for someone who loves the look of this watch and wants to get basically the same exact watch for a fraction of the price. There is absolutely no way to tell the difference between this and the original as all visual parts are authentic. If you take into consideration that the movement is also basically exactly the same your getting a great bang for your buck! .
The problem is the mechanism isn't exactly the same - it runs at 36k bph versus 28.8k bph after Rolex "modified the movement to Rolex standards". .....but this is the kind of shit you see on eBay and elsewhere on the internet.
So it is basically an updated Rolex? A tuned Daytona, finally living up to the potential of it's strangled engine Someone should cut a date window in that dial!
I saw this...and thought at the right price, given all is really oem Rolex, that it may be a decent watch to wear. Great beater.
...then it is an upgrade. The Primero was stripped of its date function and reduced to a lower beat rate to be a Rolex.
Like with any frankenwatch, I am guessing the final value will just be equivalent to the sum of its respective parts. But with the prices Rolex go for these days and the fact that not every future seller will fully disclose about the watch's history, who can really tell...
Good that he's being honest, but it's going to hit 20k because half the bidders on eBay are idiots and never read the description. I wish there was a pic of this replacement Zenith movement installed.
The case seems to be a grey area. It's not on the list of authentic Rolex parts that are mentioned in the listing.
Sold for $10,552.00 I thinks this is an interesting watch, but oh my the Daytona bubble distorts prices......
