Hi everyone. Firstly thanks to everyone for all the info and to those who run the forum. I’ve spent hours looking through it all and its been invaluable in helping me make a my first Omega purchase (apologies for not asking any questions first but they were all pretty much answered). Below are a few pics should anyone want to view them and comment on its condition/authenticity etc. I took a leap of faith and I hope I’m still as happy with it after your comments It’s obviously been well looked after and recently cleaned/brushed. It keeps good time and has a 12 month warranty. The bracelet has the correct 1267/241 marking but I’m not sure about the crown as I’ve seen examples of both gold and, like this one, silver/steel. Anyone know if mine is original? I’m not sure of the originality of the Quartz plaque either?? Finally is it okay for a complete novice like me to open it up? I’ll send further pics if so. Thanks for your time
Looks fine to my eyes (I'd written the Mariner "Saga" back in the day http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?117474-The-Omega-Seamaster-Quartz-Mariner-Saga-I-II-and-III) including the plaque and the crown (never seen a gold one, are you thinking of the US 1343 maybe ?). I own a couple of Mariner I but the Mariner II I once purchased on eBay Italy went back because the dial was "stained" (probably water) and TBH I'd found it a bit small.
Thanks for a) your response and b) The Saga.....I have referred to it numerous times!! I agree that unfortunately it is a bit on the small side, compared to its big brother, but fortunately so is its price tag and I’m in no position to upgrade....I still love it though. It was the OMC that first set me on this path when I saw it at The Royal Observatory Museum in Greenwich a few months ago. Have you got a rough idea on its value? I’m not intending on selling it but I’m a Northern Englishman so I’d like to know if I got value for money haha! P.S. If you ever feel you don’t need BOTH your Mariners......
I haven't really been keeping track of the Mariner values as of late but as usual eBay sold items would be a good place to get a sense of that. Good to know they have an OMC at the Greenwich observatory now, I don't recall seeing one when I went in November 2012, there were several at the British Museum in the summer of 2013 though. Did you take pictures by any chance ? I could probably do without one of my Mariner's indeed ! Will take a look at them and see how they're running and take some pics ;-)
I did but only one to remind me which one it was, rather than a decent shot. It’s on an old phone somewhere so I’ll try and dig it out for you
Thanks, no rush. I remember being disappointed that there wasn't much in the way of quartz chronometers, jus a couple of large models that were unknown to me.
