So all this time we’ve been told that you catch gonorrhoea from horizontal folk dancing…… when you really catch it from smoke!
So on days when there is a lot of atmospheric smoke, keep you Willy in you pants and put a mask on it.
I believe that you can get special rubber masks for your Willy that are designed to protect you and your beloved Willy from gonorrhoea, caused by atmospheric smoke.

I'm so sorry. I love this place, but sometimes we nail the art of the 'self-own'.

I have to see that dang STD alert every time I drive home 🤬. Maybe the haze will build up enough to hide it.

At least Baltimore didn't make national news as one of the two U.S. cities with the worst air quality today. That honor goes to Philadelphia (where I was born) and Harrisburg (where I live now), Pennsylvania.

Well at least you didn’t set the Cuyahoga river on fire!
Way-to-go…Ohio.

There’s even a couple hundred Aussies and kiwis over with them. The Canadians and Americans are always kind enough to help down under during our bushfire season too which is nice.

The Canadians also have these really cool planes the CL-415s, purpose built water bombers which are just awesome and designed and built right there in polar bear country.

Someone I know gets to see all these up real close when they come to Australia every time 😗…..

At the risk of sounding sanctimonious- that’s is sadly what we get as a result of everyone driving SUVs, flying around without any limitation, and refusing to curb their consumption of beef, fossil fuels, coffee, palm oil, and the like— thereby leading to deforestation and ever increasing emissions of greenhouse gases.

Our kids’ generation will roast in hell and no one apparently gives a damn in large swaths of the western world,
Because god forbid we should give up on some of our whims.

First of all why not just try a fuel efficient vehicle, fewer steaks, and forest grown coffee, and lobbying for more trains?

—end of rant.

there is a long history of this shit it’s time to rise up.

but seriously they are telling people with asthma and other lung issues to stay home around here they really aren’t talking about how bad it is in Canada I understand you focus on your area but our news (that I’ve caught) isn’t saying much about the source. I go online to look it up, sad stuff just seems weird in a way.

The beef issue so far as the actual emissions from the animal has a solution, farmers here have started adding a little seaweed to their diet, this has seriously reduced the flatulence of the cattle, I understand it has economic benefits to the farmer too.

And the easiest way to accomplish those things is for the government to either make it VERY expensive for consumers not to comply or to subsidize the cost of more environmentally friendly options. Most people seldom change self-interested behavior unless there is a substantial cost to them individually for continuing to engage in it.

According to a certain notorious opinion network sometimes referred to as BS Mountain, who recently paid a huge settlement for said BS, this is all in our imagination and those wearing masks are “SNOWFLAKES” ….They are triggered again by mask advisories. Government is reverting to Covid nanny state. All good, since Sky Net is well along in development, AI does not need breathable air.

Yet but there's the rub eh... a government that makes "god given resources" (said ironically by the way) & formerly limitless items expensive is a government that either won't get elected or stay in office past a single term... so we go back to that square marked "Go" again.
By the way, same exact thing with guns (here in the States)... it can't be solved because folk banking coin don't want to, well, stop banking coin ie: solve it.

Rinse/Repeat.

Better example... the Pandemic and toilet paper & sanitizer: people simply didn't give a shit about community until they had more than enough.

To my mind, it all starts with adult humans that have good brains and then transfers onward to those same humans raising miniature humans with good brains... but we all know that's a pipedream too.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but... we're fυcked. We will use up everything until there's nothing left and then slowly die while screaming out, "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?"
Ummm...

[If this is over the top, use the 'report' option and the mods will remove it. I thought it innocuous and humorous. Thankfully, pretty much every American thinks the country is going to hell so everyone can put their own spin on it 😁]

Reminds me of a quote that a friend of mine (politically appointed State Environmental Director), nothing achieves
GHG/efficiency goals better than $150/barrel oil. State incentives/projects were pretty much useless.

And that was about 12 years ago.

The photos in this thread recall the Haze in Singapore and SE Asia in 1997 when the sun, when you could see it at all, was just a dull orange ball for months. The smoke and particulates came from wildfires in Sumatra and Kalimantan triggered by burning off and magnified by the drying effects of El Nino that year, and there was no getting away from it, even the bars of Malaysian made chocolate had a very unpleasant smokey taste. Hoping for the best for all of you in N America.
