tension band crystal options please

Hi I have a circa 1970 geneve case 166.070 which belonged to my grandfather and I am refurbishing. unfortunately he had a non original crystal installed with a "cyclops" date magnifier (and no tension band) i think because of his eyesight later in life and, in the interest of a nod to the heirloom, I am interested in possibly replacing this with a tension band OEM crystal BUT with a cyclops.

I believe the original crystal may have been a PZ5005 (29.6mm)- I was wondering if anyone very knowledgeable (perhaps @Archer who has written many great posts I have read!) might be able to comment on whether this is possible and suggest an appropriate crystal to use?

Thanks in advance

Omega did offer mag crystals. They had an L in the code so try a search for PZ5005L if you are sure that is indeed the right one that fits. If Al pops along he can hopefully maybe confirm whether such a thing exists.

5005 is 31.6mm. There are generics on eBay with a date lens, and some Omega but different numbers, which is usually different height.

Thank you for that information- i don't know why i thought it was 29.6? Is there a catalogue or reference that has the details of all the various crystals?

Since this is a gold case by the look of your photos, what you need is a 063PX5005. PZ would have a silver tension ring, so PX has a gold coloured tension ring to match the case.

There is no cylcops version of the 063PX5005 listed.

Cheers, Al

Thanks a lot for your information Al- much appreciated.
I have a couple questions- first, I have found some references at online shops to a px/pz5005L
http://www.stsupply.com/pz5005l-omega-crystal-white.html

and offrei also references a 31.6mm crystal px5007L which they say "replaced the 5005L no longer available from Omega". I have found this 5007 also available in PZ and PX elsewhere.
assuming these are OEM omega tension ring crystals at 31.6mm, can I assume they will likely fit the case and movement and work for my project? (another way of saying this is; at the equivalent crystal diameter, were different profile tension rings made)

thanks again for your help on this!

Very unlikely that they would be Omega crystals. Typically Omega tension rings are stepped on the underside so the edge of the dial is notched into the ring. If the ring doesn’t have this notch, it can damage the edge of the dial.
