I like the look of this elderly Seamaster, but I am sure that you folks will have opinions about the seller, the price, and the watch - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Sea...istwatches&hash=item257effe3bf#ht_6247wt_1040Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Has the dial been refinished? I would have thought it should be a 'coat-hanger' S in Seamaster, but maybe not. And of course, by the time I had got this back to the UK and paid Customs dues it would be about £800 GBP - say $1,200 USD. Thanks for your replies in advance. John
Trustworthy seller. I had a very good experience with him. He properly services his watches and stands behind his warranty.
Dial looks original. Seller IS trustworthy but his prices are on the high side and IMO he overprocesses his watches too much especially when it comes to case polishing. He also has a lot of watches with refinished dials - sort of specializing in making vintage omegas look new again.
It looks lovely John. The only trouble is now that you've outed it, you'll have to buy it before someone else does.
I think that's Tim McKrain (spelling?) and he's very good with Omega, even able to replate the copper on movements. However, he isn't cheap and as Mike mentioned he caters to the large "ooooo, shiny" crowd mostly.
Thanks for your replies, folks. The case on this one does look awfully good, doesn't it? Rather too good to be true, perhaps. One would imagine that the seller has been busy with the buffing wheel . . .
Yes, it could be. But he's one of the only options for a nice watch where the plating has worn off from aggressive chemicals used to clean the parts.
To me patina is patina, inside or out, I would never even consider re-plating the movement on my 2500 just because it isn't perfect.
Well, in the end I bought it, of course. You all knew I would, didn't you? I just couldn't resist that two-tone guilloche dial with the hint of salmon Tim accepted my offer, now comes the long frustrating wait for it to get across the Atlantic and through the UK customs . . .
Interesting differences - yours is a lot more salmon, obviously. Notice also the difference in the shape of the hour batons, and the much wider bezel on mine. What year is yours? It makes you wonder if any two Omegas are actually exactly the same from the 1950s.
This guy is a good seller. Some examples are over-polished but then they were probably to begin with, or partially unsalvageable/tired. I bought a couple of really nice connies from him and he stands behind his watches!
